WD6X: AutoText Entry Not Selected in AutoText Dialog Box (118839)

SYMPTOMS

When you create an AutoText entry, the text that is selected in the document is not highlighted in the AutoText dialog box. Instead, the insertion point appears at the end of the text.

WORKAROUND

Manually select the text using the mouse or press SHIFT+HOME.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Word version 6.0 for the Macintosh. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

AutoText entries can store boilerplate text or graphics. Once you create an entry, you can insert the entry in a document by typing the name of the entry, then choosing the AutoText button on the Standard toolbar or clicking AutoText from the Edit menu.

To create an AutoText entry:

  1. Select the text or graphics you want to store as an AutoText entry.
  2. Click the AutoText button on the Standard toolbar or click AutoText on the Edit menu.
  3. Accept the default name in the dialog box or type a new name in the Name box.
  4. In the Make AutoText Entry Available To list, specify the template in which you want to store the entry.
  5. Click Add.
