SYMPTOMS

After you run the PresentIt macro in Word, a file named ~present.rtf remains in the \Windows\Temp folder.

In Word 6.0, the PresentIt macro is located in Convert.dot. In Word 6.0a, the macro is located in Present.dot.

Note that this problem does not occur in Word 97 because Word does not have a PresentIt macro. To run the PresentIt feature in Word 97, point to Send To on the File menu, and click Microsoft PowerPoint.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs by design. The PresentIt macro exports a Word outline to Microsoft PowerPoint. To do this, the macro saves a rich text format (.rtf) file and then starts PowerPoint such that the .rtf file opens automatically. Once PowerPoint has finished opening the file, the temporary file can be deleted.

Because there is no definitive way to determine when PowerPoint has started and opened the .rtf file, the macro cannot delete the file.
