SUMMARY

Using shading in the Works Spreadsheet module may make information in the shaded area appear distorted. This apparent distortion will not affect spreadsheet printing.

Some shadings, such as black text on solid gray, can make the text displayed in the spreadsheet appear distorted even though the text highlighted by the cursor appears normal on the formula bar.

This occurs when some elements of the pattern mix with parts of the character of text. As the size of the text characters increase, this effect is lessened because there are more parts of the text characters that do not mix with elements of the pattern. This apparent distortion will not affect printing.

This is by design. The apparent distortion is caused by the pattern that is chosen for use with the text on the spreadsheet. To prevent this effect, change the pattern, pattern color, or text size and color so that the text does not appear distorted.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Create a new spreadsheet using Arial 10 in Works.
  2. Type 1234567 in cell A1 and press ENTER.
  3. From the Format menu, click Patterns.

    In Works 4.0, 4.5, or 4.5a: On the Format menu, click Shading.
  4. Change the Pattern to the gray selection right below black.
  5. Click OK. Notice that the number typed in step 2 appears distorted.
  6. Click the cell and click Font & Style on the Format menu.
  7. Increase the font size to 14 and click OK.
Notice that the number you typed in step 2 is displayed more clearly.
