SYMPTOMS

User accounts in a domain may be validated in the domain with guest access, even if they have a valid user account and the guest account is disabled. The following message is displayed from a LAN Manager 2.2 client to indicate GUEST level privilege:
The server <server name> successfully logged you on as <account name>. Your privilege level on this domain is GUEST.

CAUSE

Validation with guest access occurs because the user account is a member of a global group that is not a member of one of the local groups in the domain.

RESOLUTION

To avoid this problem, make sure that the global group is a member of an appropriate local group in the domain, such as Users for USER level privilege or Administrators for ADMIN level privilege.
