Canon Bubble-Jet 200 Won't Print in Epson LQ Mode under NT (110198)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows NT Server 3.1
- Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 3.1
- Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server 3.1
This article was previously published under Q110198 SYMPTOMS
When you print to a Canon Bubble-Jet 200 from Windows NT, the printer may
reset then stop responding (hang). All Windows-based applications, both 16-
bit and 32-bit, experience this problem.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when the Canon Bubble-Jet 200 is set to Epson LQ
compatibility mode.
MORE INFORMATION
The Canon Bubble-Jet 200 has both Canon Bubble-Jet and Epson LQ
compatibility modes. Under Windows 3.0 and 3.1, or Windows for Workgroups
3.1 and 3.11, using the Canon Bubble-Jet 200 printer driver generates
correct output even if the printer is set in Epson LQ compatibility mode.
Under Windows NT 3.1, this is no longer possible. The printer must be in
Canon mode to use the Canon Bubble-Jet driver, or Epson LQ mode to use an
Epson driver.
The current mode is set by dip switch #12, found on the back of the
printer. Set dip switch #12 "ON" to set the printer in Epson LQ mode. Canon
recommends using an Epson LQ 510, LQ 850, or LQ 500 driver when the printer
is in this mode. When dip switch #12 is set to the "OFF" position, the
printer is in Canon Bubble-Jet mode, and the Canon Bubble-Jet 200 driver
should be used.
