SUMMARY

Microsoft Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server allow different password lengths from different interfaces, namely User Manager and the CTRL+ALT+DEL key sequence (logon shell process). This is not documented in the Windows NT or Windows NT Advanced Server System Guide.

MORE INFORMATION

The Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server System Guides, pages 354 and 368 respectively, explain that a password of 14-character length can be entered from the User Manager interface. However, the System Guide does not say that this is not a restriction when the password is changed from the CTRL+ALT+DEL key sequence invoking the logon shell process. The maximum password allowed using this procedure is 128 characters.
