Only First 100 Names Listed in the Name Box (107704)

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel, only the first 100 defined names are listed in the name box.

This 100-name limit is by design so that you can quickly define names on a worksheet from the name box. The greater the number of names listed in the name box, the longer it takes to define or display a name using the name box.

NOTE: The names in the name box are listed in alphabetical order.

MORE INFORMATION

You can use any defined name by typing it directly into a formula, or by selecting it from the Paste Name list available by choosing Name from the Insert menu and choosing Paste. But, you can only select from the first 100 defined names with the Names box.

The total number of defined names you can have in a workbook is limited by available memory. For more information about the maximum numbers of elements you can use in a worksheet or workbook, click the Index tab in Microsoft Excel Help, type the following text
