NetLogon Service Necessary for NetDDE Connections in a Domain (105195)

SYMPTOMS

On a domain, if the NetLogon service is not started and you try to use Chat or ClipBook Viewer to connect to a computer running Windows NT, you may be prompted for a password even if a password should not be necessary.

RESOLUTION

To workaround the error messages and use NetDDE applications, verify that the NetLogon service is started on the Windows NT computer you are attempting to connect to.

On a Windows for Workgroups or Windows 95 computer, the following message appears:

When you attempt to connect with ClipBook from a Windows NT computer, you will receive the following error message:
There is a problem with the connection to the other computer. Try reconnecting to the computer that contains the ClipBook page.
When you attempt to connect with ClipBook from a Windows for Workgroups computer, you will receive the following error message:
A connection could not be established to the specified computer.
