Cannot Use Backslash to Change Drives (104430)

SYMPTOMS

The Windows NT Command Prompt (CMD.EXE) does not allow you to use a backslash key (\) to change drives. If you type D:\ at the command prompt to change to the D drive, the following message appears:
The name specified is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
In MS-DOS versions 5.0 and 6.0, you can change drives in this manner.

RESOLUTION

Simply do not use the backslash key. Type D: instead of D:\.
