To Remove and Replace a Tray Controller
If needed, to help locate the correct tray, activate the White locate LED:
From the rear, controller/IOM "A" is located in the upper left corner of the tray and controller/IOM "B" is located in the lower right corner of the of the tray.
Locate the failed controller/IOM by checking the fault lights. If a fault is detected, the Service Action Required LED (Amber) will be on and the Service Action Allowed (Blue) LED should be on.
Verify that the controller/IOM is ready to remove.
a) The controller/IOM "State" should be "Enabled but Offline" and the "Status" should be "Error".
b) If the controller/IOM "Status" is not "Error" contact your Sun Service provider or next level of technical support.
Important: Potential loss of data access - Never remove a Controller/IOM assembly unless the Blue Service Action Allowed LED is "On".
From the failed controller/IOM, disconnect the host interface cables (if present) and expansion tray interface cables (if present) including the SFP transceivers. Ensure that all cables are labeled before removing them.
If controller/IOM "A" is being replaced, press the tab on the right side of the latch/handle and lift the latch/handle up at the same time to unlock the controller/IOM and pull the the controller/IOM out of the tray. If controller/IOM "B" is being replaced, press the tab on the left side of the latch/handle and pull down on the latch/handle at the same time to unlock the controller/IOM and pull the controller/IOM out of the tray.
Unpack the new controller/IOM and save all of the packing materials to return the failed controller/IOM in. Use care when handling either the new or the failed controller/IOM.
Remove the battery from the failed controller by pushing and holding the tension tab towards the battery handle and then use the battery handle to pull the battery out of the controller.
Insert the battery in the new controller until it is firmly in place.
Place the failed controller/IOM in the antistatic bag.
Record the two MAC address's from the white label on the front or side of the controller assembly. The MAC address's will be used in step 18.
Insert the new controller/IOM until it connects with the midplane connector and push the latch/handle in to the locked position.
Reconnect all host interface cables and expansion tray interface cables, including the SFP transceivers, to their original locations.
Wait approximately 60 seconds for the controller/IOM to complete it's boot process.
a) All Link LEDs should be on.
b) All Fault LEDs should be off.
c) The battery charged (solid green) or charging (flashing green) LED should be on. Does not apply to the IOM.
d) View the controller LED location illustration.
If the battery from the failed controller was used, the age does not need to be reset. If a new battery was installed, the age must be reset.
CAUTION: Potential data loss. If the battery age is not set correctly, you may not be notified to change the battery at the correct time, and data loss could occur. Contact your Sun Service provider or your next level of technical support if the battery age has been reset by mistake.
Verify the controller/IOM "State" and "Status".
a) The controller/IOM "State" should be "Enable" and the "Status" should be "OK".
b) If the controller is not "Enable" and "OK" contact your Sun Service provider or your next level of technical support.
A new FRU inventory will need to be created for the new controller/IOM: Generate new FRU inventory.
Change the BOOTP server configuration using the two MAC address's found on the front of the new controller. Refer to your specific operating system administrators guide for detailed information on the configuration procedure.
The volumes may need to be moved back to the "preferred" manager/controller: Redistribute volumes.
The Agent will now need to be run to provide a current update on the volumes and their "preferred" manager/controller.
b) At the Agent Summary window, select the box under the Add Agent column for the appropriate host that the new tray is attached to.
c) Select the "Run Agent" button to execute the Agent.
