Removing Power to the Tray(s)
If the controller tray being converted will need to be moved, use the following steps to power down the tray.
From the rear, power-fan assembly "A" is located in the lower left corner of the tray and power-fan assembly "B" is located in the upper right corner of the of the tray.
Press the power switches on the power-fan assemblies to the Off positions on the controller tray to be converted.
Remove the power cables from each power-fan assembly.
Replacing the I/O Modules (IOM) with Controller Cards
From the rear, IOM "A" is located in the upper left corner of the tray and IOM "B" is located in the lower right corner of the of the tray.
Disconnect the expansion tray interface cables from the IOM. Ensure that all cables are labeled before removing them.
To replace IOM "A" first, press the tab on the right side of the latch/handle and lift the latch/handle up at the same time to unlock the IOM and pull the the IOM out of the tray. To replace IOM "B" second, press the tab on the left side of the latch/handle and pull down on the latch/handle at the same time to unlock the IOM and pull the IOM out of the tray.
Unpack the controller and save all of the packing materials to return the IOM in. Use care when handling either the controller or the IOM.
Record the MAC address for the new controller from the white label on the front or side of the assembly. This information will be needed in the Restoring Power to the Tray section.
Insert the new controller until it connects with the midplane connector and push the latch/handle into the locked position.
Repeat steps 2 through 6 for replacing the remaining IOM.
Relocating the Tray (if necessary)
From the rear, remove the two screws that secure the tray to the rails in the cabinet.
Remove the four screws that secure the tray to the cabinet frame.
Slide the tray out of the cabinet using two people. Use care the tray is heavy. The tray can weigh up to 95 lbs.
Carefully lift and slide the converted tray into the new location.
Secure the tray to the front of the cabinet frame with the four screws.
From the rear of the cabinet, insert and tighten the two rear mounting screws.
