Remove and Replace Battery

Note: If these procedures have been linked from an Event Grid/Event Advisor Alarm skip step 2.
Before starting this service action enable the reserve cabinet(s) function.
a)
b) Enter a description of the service action (i.e. replacing battery).
c) Select the estimated amount of time of the service action from the pull-down.
d) Select the Reserve Cabinet(s) button.
e) Other users will be alerted that this service action is in progress when they log in.
f) Close the pop-up screen.
If the correct power and cooling unit / battery has been selected proceed to step 3 or return to the previous screen to select another power and cooling unit / battery.
Observe all
a) Close the pop-up screen.
If needed, to help locate the correct tray, activate the
blinking white locator LED:
a) Close the pop-up screen.
Locate the power and cooling unit that contains the battery to be replaced. Power and cooling unit number one is located on the left and power and cooling unit number two is located on the right when facing the rear of the tray.

b) Close the pop-up screen.
Verify that the power and cooling unit that contains the battery
is ready to remove:
a) The FRU Stat Output should be "fault" and Battery should be "failed".
b) Confirm that the FRU Stat Status-State for the redundant power and cooling unit in the same tray is "ready-enabled".
c) If the FRU Stat Output is NOT "fault" and the Battery "failed" call your Sun Service provider to assist with this service action.
d) Close the pop-up screen.
If the FRU Stat Output IS "fault" and the Battery IS "failed" the power and cooling unit is ready for removal, power off the power unit by pressing the power switch to Off.
Disconnect the power cable from power and cooling unit.
Remove the power cable from the cable clip on the power and cooling unit.
Loosen the Phillips retainer screw to unlock the power and cooling unit latch handle.
Pull up on the latch handle to release the power and cooling unit from its connector. Pull the power and cooling unit straight out of the tray.
Note: Use care not to unplug any other cables when removing the power and cooling unit.

b) Close the pop-up screen.
Turn the power and cooling unit over and place it on a flat surface so that the bottom is facing up.
Remove the four Phillips screws that secure the UPS battery in the power and cooling unit.
Lift the battery up and pull it out at an angle to disconnect it.

b) Dispose of the old battery properly.
c) Close the pop-up screen.
Slide the new battery in at a slight angle, matching the male connector on the battery with the female connector on the power and cooling unit.
Secure the four screws that hold the battery in place.
Insert the power and cooling unit in the tray until the latch handle touches the chassis.
Push the latch handle down and secure the Phillips retainer screw to lock the latch handle. When the power and cooling unit receives AC power, the LEDs will flash.
Make sure the power switch is in the Off position (-) before connecting the power cord.
Insert the power cord into the power and cooling unit connector.
Press the power switch to the On position.
Insert the power cable into the cable clip.
Verify that the power and cooling unit green LED is On and that power is present.
Verify that the power and cooling unit is ready-enabled:
a) The FRU Stat Status-State should now be "ready-enabled".
b) The FRU Stat Output should be "normal" and the Battery should be "charge" or "normal".
c) Close the pop-up screen.
A new inventory will need to be created for the new battery:
a) From the Inventory Maintenance screen, select the Generate New Inventory button at the bottom of the screen.
b) After the Generate New Inventory has completed, select the Save New Inventory button at the bottom of the screen.
c) Close the pop-up screen.
Turn the tray LED Off:
a) Close the pop-up screen.
Disable the reserve cabinet(s) function.

b) Select the Release Cabinet(s) button.
c) Close the pop-up screen.
