Platform Requirements for WindowsThe following are required to run the Instant Messenger user interface on Windows:
Launching the User InterfaceLaunch the Instant Messenger user interface on Windows using Java Web Start, which is an application launcher for Java 2 applets, or the Java Plug-in.
Using Java Web Start allows your browser to be closed or used to locate other URLs without any risk of affecting the Instant Messenger session.
To launch the user interface:
- Enter the URL provided by your system administrator in your browser. Click “Start Messenger with Java Web Start” or “Start Messenger with Java Web Start” button.
The Java Web Start or the Java Plug-in downloads the Sun Java System Instant Messenger applet and displays a sign-on window.
- Enter your login name and password in the sign-on window and click OK.
- After the login name and password authentication, the main window opens.
This simple procedure assumes that your browser was able to find Java Web Start or the Java Plug-in on your system (depending on which one you chose to use).
