Installing Your Cluster
The SunPlexTM Manager installs Sun Cluster 3.0 and
associated components on a specific set of Solaris machines.
If prerequisite hardware criteria are met, the SunPlex Manager performs the
following functions.
- Installs Solstice DiskSuite
- Configures Solstice DiskSuite metasets
- Mounts those metasets as global cluster file systems
- Adds quorum devices to the cluster
- Creates public network adapter failover groups
- Configures the failover NFS data service
- Configures the scalable Apache data service
To install Sun Cluster 3.0 on a new cluster by using the SunPlex Manager, refer to the
Sun Cluster 3.0 Installation Guide.
Installing and Configuring Your Highly Available Applications (Data Services)
Now you can install and configure your highly available applications (such as
web servers and databases) by using a graphical user interface (GUI). The GUI simplifies the
installation by prompting you for information specific to your system and providing
you with a basic configuration for your application.
The SunPlex Manager provides complete application installation and
configuration to simplify the installation of applications such as an Oracle
database or iPlanet Web Server on the cluster.
With a minimal amount of user input through
web-based wizards, SunPlex Manager installs the application binaries on all nodes
of the cluster,
edits the application's configuration
files, configures the cluster to run the application, and starts the application in the cluster framework.
If you require more tailoring, tuning, and control over the installation and
configuration, you can also install and configure your applications manually.
Administering and Monitoring Your Cluster
You can use the SunPlex Manager can be used to administer (add, modify, and
remove) the major components that a Sun Cluster 3.0 cluster contains.
- Resources and resource groups
- Global devices (Solstice DiskSuite metasets and VxVM disk groups)
- Quorum devices
- Public network adapter failover groups
- Private cluster interconnect components
SunPlex Manager also provides basic node
information, such as uptime, a view of the running processes, and
a view of the system logs. If you need command-line access to
one or more nodes of the cluster, a link is provided for
launching a telnet window.
