Compaq Insight Manager Agents
The Compaq Insight Manager Agents provide SNMP
access to useful system information.
The agent packages installed are as follows:
- cmafdtn
- These foundation agents allow host access.
- cmasvr
- These agents allow server management.
- cmastor
- These agents allow storage management
- cmanic
- These agents allow network management.
- nsctools
- This package includes the agent, nscccmd, which allows cluster-level
management from the Compaq Insight Manager XE console.
Notes:
- The Automatic Server Recovery feature is not currently
supported by SCO UnixWare 7 NonStop Clusters. The Compaq
Insight Manager AutoRecovery
Window shows the feature as Not Available.
-
Do not install the EFS Compaq Advanced Server Recovery ptfcpqasr package.
Uninstall the ptfcpqasr package if it has been previously installed.
Ensure that the Advanced Server Recovery Option has been disabled.
Use the following steps:
-
Reboot the cluster with the following command:
shutdown -i6 -g0 -y
-
At the prompt, press F10 for System Partition
Utilities.
- At the Compaq screen, press a key to continue.
-
At the main menu, select System Configuration.
- From the System Configuration menu, select
Configure Hardware.
Wait while the system configures hardware and loads
configuration files.
- At the Configuration Complete dialog, select
Review or Modify Hardware Settings.
-
At the Steps in configuring your computer menu, select
Step 3: View or edit details.
- From the list presented, scroll to the
Embedded - Automatic Server Recovery (ASR) section
and set the Automatic Server Recovery option to
disabled.
-
Press F10 when you are finished.
- From the Steps in configuring your computer
menu, select Step 5: Save and exit.
- From the Step 5: Save and exit dialog box,
select Save the configuration and restart your
computer.
- At the next Step 5: Save and exit dialog, press
Enter to continue rebooting your system.
-
Occasionally, not all daemons on all nodes start properly
upon initial installation or node restart. If this situation occurs,
either reboot the cluster, or enter the following series of commands:
- Enter the following command:
onall /etc/init.d/cpqsnmp stop_for
-
Wait five minutes, then enter:
onall /etc/init.d/snmp_node stop
-
Wait one hour, then enter:
onall /etc/init.d/cpqsnmp start_for
-
Agent startup may take up to 15 minutes when a node is rebooted.
Agent startup may take up to 10 minutes per node at Compaq
Insight Manager installation.
-
Use the following command syntax to perform the agent start or stop operation in the
background:
/etc/init.d/cpqsnmp start | stop
- Use the following command syntax to perform the agent start or stop
operation on a specific node:
/etc/init.d/cpqsnmp start_for | stop_for node
- On IP-interconnected clusters, during some boot or node-failure situations,
the following message can appear on the console:
dlpid: InfoInterface: Unable to find DLPI Interface (DEVICE) in internal table
This message is harmless, but can be removed by stopping and starting the
cmanic daemon. Use the following steps:
-
Stop the cmanic daemon while the cluster boots. Enter the
following command:
onall /etc/init.d/cmanic stop
-
After all the nodes have fully joined the cluster, wait 5 minutes, and enter
the following command to restart the cmanic daemon:
onall /etc/init.d/cmanic start
-
Occasionally, "nscvu -f filename" may not run to completion after the
first failover initiated by the test. If the command, "ps -e | grep nscvu",
shows that nscvu has exitted prematurely, reissue the command to run the test.
-
Occasionally, Cluster Monitor may show a yellow environment status,
the web interface (port 2301) shows a yellow node summary status
which does not correspond to any specific problems in related sub-pages,
and the Windows-based console shows an unknown status for CPU 0 on all nodes.
This condition may be corrected by issuing the following commands:
onall /etc/init.d/cmastdeq stop
onall /sbin/metreg
onall /etc/init.d/cmastdeq start
