AMM Family Common Questions and Answers Q: My Audio CD Player works fine in DOS but I can't play Windows CD Player? A: To play an audio CD under Windows using the Adaptec CD Player or Windows Media Player, an MCI CD Audio driver is required. The most common error message displayed is "NO CD", when the MCI driver is not present. You can add it yourself, but please have your Microsoft Windows diskettes present before taking the following steps. In Windows, under control panel click on the Drivers icon, click on Add, select the MCI CD Audio driver from the driver selection list and click OK. Q: My CD-ROM drive is XA compliant, so why does ASPICDXA.EXE not load during boot up? A: XA (Mode 2 Form 2) is a newer technology which supports both audio and data on the same track of CD ROM's. There are not many XA CD titles on the market which support this technology yet. Currently this driver only supports certain CD ROM's including Chinon (CDS-535), Hitachi (CDR-6750), Panasonic (CR-532), Plextor (Texel) (DM-3028, DM-5028), Sony (CDU-541), Teac (CD-50) and Toshiba (XM-3301, XM-3401). More information can be found in the README.TXT or the EZ-Audio installation disk. Q: Why can't I hear any sound from the speakers when the CD Player in DOS and Windows seems to be working okay? A: In order to use Audio CD ROM or play games and utilities with analog audio, a 4 pin CD Audio-in cable is required. This cable is connected from the CD Audio-In connector of AMM-157x to the CD Audio connector of your internal CD ROM. You can purchase this cable from your local computer supply store or order it directly from TTS Multimedia Systems at (800) 887-4968. Please look at the Installation Hints Addendum for a more detailed description. Q: I am replacing a previously installed sound card. Do I need to remove any drivers first? A: Yes. If you had a sound card previously installed in your system, there are drivers and configuration parameters that must be removed. Remove all the sound card drivers and parameters from autoexec.bat, config.sys, and system.ini before installing the AMM-157x. For further information, download OTHERSND.TXT from the Adaptec BBS. Q: During Windows boot-up a warning message shows "No Adaptec AMM-157X detected" or "Roland MPU 401" driver not installed? A: To resolve this configuration error, install EZ-audio disk and continue installing up to windows sound system disk 1. Under Windows Sound System select AMM-157X driver and when it asks you to "install software" or "restart Windows", please select restart Windows. Also if you have any IRQ or port address conflict in Windows, you can change them under windows control panel under driver's icon by clicking on set up. Revision date: 2/1/95 Document # W39160
