libtool-1.4.2: description + notes

GNU libtool is a generic library support script. Libtool hides the complexity of using shared libraries behind a consistent, portable interface.

Note: version 1.3 was the first release to handle IRIX shared libraries correctly. Freeware contributors are strongly encouraged to update any older versions they encounter, even if you do not plan to install the generated "libfoo.la" file. To upgrade just replace any copies of ltconfig and ltmain.sh in your source with the versions installed in /usr/freeware/share/libtool/ before running "make diffs". You can find out what version your source contains by searching for "VERSION=" in ltconfig.

Note: be careful when building C++ libraries that use templates. libtool's renaming and relocating of object files can confuse the CC -prelink automatic template instantiation process, resulting in undefined symbols at run-time.
