foomatic-filters-3.0.0: description + notes

Foomatic is a system for using free software printer drivers with common spoolers on Unix. It supports LPD, PDQ, CUPS, the VA Linux LPD, LPRng, PPR, and direct spooler-less printing and any free software driver for which execution data has been entered in the LinuxPrinting.org database.

This package contains two scripts and their respective man pages: foomatic-rip and foomatic-gswrapper. foomatic-rip is the main PostScript-to-printer's-native-language filter, while foomatic-gswrapper is an auxiliary filter ironing out some Ghostscript quirks. foomatic-rip always uses PPD files for printer/driver capabilities info. Manufacturer-supplied PPDs of PostScript printers can be used, too.

The IRIX version of this package requires CUPS and a suitable version of Ghostscript.
