NOVELL TECHNICAL INFORMATION DOCUMENT TITLE: Novell Client for Win95/98 Service Pack 1 TID #: 2951630 README FOR: 9531sp1.exe NOVELL PRODUCTS and VERSIONS: Novell Client 3.1 for Windows 95/98 ABSTRACT: Novell Client v3.1 for Windows 95/98 Service Pack 1. This file contains updates for the Novell Client v3.1 for Windows 95/98. ----------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER THE ORIGIN OF THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL TO NOVELL. NOVELL MAKES ALL REASONABLE EFFORTS TO VERIFY THIS INFORMATION. HOWEVER, THE INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THIS DOCUMENT IS FOR YOUR INFORMATION ONLY. NOVELL MAKES NO EXPLICIT OR IMPLIED CLAIMS TO THE VALIDITY OF THIS INFORMATION. ----------------------------------------------------------------- INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: OPTION 1 - Run Client Service Pack Installer, SETUPSP.EXE ***************************************************************** To install the updates for the Novell Client v3.1 for Windows 95/98, run the SETUPSP.EXE located in the PRODUCTS\WIN95\IBM_ENU directory. OPTION 2 - Update Client Source Files and Re-install Client ****************************************************************** To update the client source files on the network, copy these updates into their respective directory on the server. For example, copy all the files and directories from PRODUCTS\WIN95\IBM_ENU to SYS:PUBLIC\CLIENT\WIN95. Then run SETUP.exe to install the complete Novell Client v3.1 for Windows 95/98, including the Client Service Pack. Once the Service Pack has been installed, a Service Pack version number will be added to the Novell Client Properties page. Next to the Service Pack version number will be a button labeled "Service Pack Files" which lists the files installed with the Novell Client Service Pack. The title of the Novell Login dialog will also contain the Service Pack version, SP1, for example. Setupsp.exe has the following functionality: 1. It checks the first two fields of the client version in the registry against the client version in the setupsp.inf file. If they are the same, it continues. If not, it terminates. 2. It checks the service pack version in the registry against the version in the setupsp.inf file. If the version in the registry is less than the version in the inf, it installs the service pack. If not, it terminates. If the beta Client Service Pack has been installed, the Service Pack version in the workstation's registry will need to be reset to 0 or removed completely. Otherwise, SETUPSP will immediately terminate and nothing will be installed. The Novell Client Version information is stored in the following location: Windows 95/98: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Network\Novell\System Config\Install\Client Version ISSUE: Fixed in the Service Pack 1 for the Novell Client v3.1 for Windows 95/98.
