Hardware assisted volume rendering

Good morning,

I would like to know if there are any technical papers/thesis etc ...
available out there regarding how OpenGL Volumizer works.
I'm mainly interested in the way they use the graphic hardware.
( i already have the few "commercial" description avalaible
on the SGI web site but i'm searching for more technical one )
If you have any pointers feel free to send them :)
