Below is a few examples of how Microsoft technology is
changing the way higher education is using new tools to enhance
and further learning in higher education today. Each school faced

ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY
Studying a way to bring more realism into accounting courses,
a team at Arizona State University created a simulation of a public
accounting firm based on the graphical Microsoft® Windows™
environment. The result-more students are staying in the course
and learning has become more effective.
CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY
Teaching management science has always been a huge challenge.
That's why a pair of Carnegie Mellon University professors decided
to find a better way. Their solution, built around Microsoft®
Excel worksheets, conveys relevant concepts quickly while arming
the students with important skills they can apply to a variety
of business situations.
COLUMBUS COLLEGE
Looking for a way to update his college's curriculum to include
the newer technologies and skills that are in the greatest demand,
a computer sciences professor has developed a complete development
environment. Key components in the program are Microsoft BackOffice
products.
CORNELL UNIVERSITY
The challenge facing Cornell University's Johnson Graduate
School of Management was clear: enhance its admissions process
without compromising its personal approach. The solution, based
on the graphical Microsoft® Windows™ environment, meets
that challenge-and more.
PURDUE UNIVERSITY NORTH CENTRAL
When students' computers started to get in the way of learning,
Purdue University North Central's academic systems manager worked
with the faculty to develop a more productive system. His solution
uses Microsoft® Works to provide a consistent interface to
students in diverse classes.
UCLA: IMMEX PROBLEM-SOLVING SOFTWARE
Challenged by a desire to create more effective examinations,
a UCLA professor developed a revolutionary Microsoft® Windows™-based
software program that reduces passive student learning and requires
students to be more active, independent learners and problem solvers.
UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT
Frustrated with incoming students' lack of familiarity with
basic computing tools, a University of Connecticut sociology professor
incorporated Microsoft® Excel and Microsoft Word for Windows™
into his courses. The result: students are becoming adept at using
computers earlier in their college careers, strengthening their
academic performance, and becoming better prepared for the business
world.
WEST CHESTER UNIVERSITY
When it came time to install a new LAN on the campus of West
Chester University, school officials turned to Microsoft®
Windows™ NT, Windows NT™ Advanced Server, and the Microsoft
Office suite of applications to create a computing environment
that could prepare the school for the future.
