What is a Microsoft AER?

Microsoft AERs sell Microsoft Academic Edition products to qualified higher education students, faculty, and staff. They also sell Microsoft Open Licenses for volume purchases to qualified educational institutions.

How can I contact an AER?

To contact an AER in your area, please call the Microsoft Sales Information Center at 1-800-426-9400. The Microsoft Sales Information Center representative will give you the names and contact information of several AERs in your area.

How do I become an AER?

If you are interested in becoming an AER, please call 1-800-426-9400 and request the AER Application Kit, part number 098-59982. Qualifications for becoming an AER include:
  • Sell Microsoft academic-priced product to qualified education customers only, as set forth in the Application and the Microsoft Educational Institution Definition which you will receive upon approval of your Application.
  • Actively promote academic-priced product to eligible customers.
  • Comply with complete list of terms and conditions found on the AER Application Form.
  • What can I purchase through an AER?

    You can purchase any available Microsoft Academic Edition product from an authorized Education Reseller. Many AER's also sell Microsoft's regular retail products. For Microsoft applications and operating systems, the only difference between Academic Edition product and regular retail product is the price. For Microsoft Home Titles, the Academic Edition product contains a teacher's curriculum or activity guide.
