PW-W95 PWW95UNS PATHWORKS for Windows 95 V1.0A Unsup Utilities ECO Summary

Copyright (c) Digital Equipment Corporation 1996, 1997. All rights reserved. PRODUCT: PATHWORKS for DOS and Windows, Version 6.0 COMPONENT: Unsupported Utilities for PATHWORKS for Windows 95, Version 1.0A OP/SYS: Windows 95 SOURCE: Digital Equipment Corporation ECO INFORMATION: ECO Kit Name: PWW95UNS ECO Kits Superseded by This ECO Kit: PW95NSUP ECO Kit Approximate Size: 792 Blocks (OpenVMS) 405475 Bytes (MS-DOS) System Reboot Necessary: No ECO KIT SUMMARY: This kit contains various UNSUPPORTED utilities for PATHWORKS for Windows 95 V1.0A as described below and in the readme file AAREADME.TXT contained within PWW95UNS.EXE. These utilities are provided on an "AS IS" basis. NDIS 2.0 Network Address Driver (DECND20.DOS) ============================================= Description This driver allows DECnet to be used with NDIS 2.0 (real mode) drivers that do not support the NetAddress keyword in PROTOCOL.INI. It is useful if your NDIS 3.x (protected mode) driver does not support the NetworkAddress and you have an NDIS 2.0 driver available. It will change the station address to an address of the form AA-00-04-00-xx-yy where xx-yy represents your DECnet node address. Installation Start->Settings->Control Panel->Network->Add->Protocol-> Add->Have Disk Enter the location of the 'PATHWORKS for Windows 95 Unsupported Kit' and select 'NDIS 2.0 NetAddress Driver [Unsupported]'. After completing the installation and rebooting, you will have to run the PATHWORKS for Windows 95 SETUP utility again to correctly configure the network address. This will add the NETADDRESS keyword to the DECND20 section of PROTOCOL.INI. PATHWORKS Datalink Mapper (DECDLL.VXD) ====================================== Description This driver provides limited emulation of the PATHWORKS datalink interface for MS-DOS applications to allow customer developed applications to work with Windows 95. The datalink interface emulated is documented in the PATHWORKS 5.1 SDK. Please note that this is for migration and backwards compatibility with previous versions of PATHWORKS. There is no guarantee that the datalink mapper and old interface will continue to work in future versions of PATHWORKS for Windows 95. Installation Using the Windows 95 Explorer, browse to the location of the unsupported disk files. Right click on the DECDLL.INF file, and select "Install". Removal Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs Select PATHWORKS Datalink Mapper [Unsupported] Click "Add/Remove..." NetBIOS LANA Utility (DECLANA.VXD, DECLANA.CPL, LANA.EXE, USE.EXE) ================================================================== Description This driver will allow you to control which NetBIOS providers (LANA numbers) are used by Win16 and Win32 applications and which transports are used for file and print service connections. It will also provide system statistics for the Windows 95 System Monitor for each NetBIOS provider installed. After installation there will be a new Control Panel application called the "PATHWORKS NetBIOS LANA Utility." This control panel is used to enable and disable LANAs and to set the delay factor for each LANA. To change the characteristics of a LANA, right click on a specific line and chose properties. The installation also copies LANA.EXE and USE.EXE to your Windows Command directory. These are MS-DOS applications that communicate with DECLANA to control LANA usage. The USE utility is identical to the PATHWORKS for DOS and Windows version, but includes a /LANA switch. This can be added to a connection line to specify which LANA should be used for the connection: USE X: \\LANMGR\PWW95V10/LANA=1 You can determine LANA assignments using USE/STATUS which will include information similar to the following: ... Redirector: Version 4.00 (Windows 95) NetBIOS LANA 0: Version 2.2 (NetBEUI) NetBIOS LANA 1: Version 2.1 (DECnet) NetBIOS LANA 7: Version 3.0 (TCP/IP) ... The LANA utility is used to control which LANAs are visible to applications. When run without any command line parameters, it displays a list of all LANAs and whether they are on, off or not present: LANA 0: OK, no delay LANA 1: OK, no delay LANA 2: Not installed LANA 3: Not installed LANA 4: Not installed LANA 5: Not installed LANA 6: Not installed LANA 7: OK, no delay Individual LANAs can be changed using the syntax: LANA LANA Delays Windows 95 does not provide a mechanism to specify the priority for different NetBIOS providers. In some cases, this results in a transport being used (such as NetBEUI) because it completes the NetBIOS CALL first even though DECnet would be the preferred transport. By specifying a small delay (500-2000ms) for the NetBEUI LANA, connections will be made over DECnet first. Note that this only applies to the NetBIOS CALL function and will not reduce performance for any other NetBIOS function. Installation Using the Windows 95 Explorer, browse to the location of the unsupported disk files. Right click on the DECLANA.INF file, and select "Install". Reboot for the install to complete. Removal Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs Select PATHWORKS NetBIOS LANA Utility [Unsupported] Click "Add/Remove..." DECnet Node Database Conversion Utility (NM_5TO4.EXE) ===================================================== Description This is a DOS utility that will create PATHWORKS 4.x database files (DECNODE.DAT and DECALIAS.DAT) from the PATHWORKS 5.x database file (PWNODE.DAT). PATHWORKS for Windows 95 only maintains the new database files, but some older DECnet applications may still look in the 4.x databases. If this occurs, you may see messages like 'Remote node is unknown' or 'Node name not defined' even though the node appears to be defined correctly when checked with NCP or the DECnet properties. NM_5TO4 will generate 4.x versions of the database files that match the current contents of the 5.x databases. NM_5TO4 takes no command line parameters and automatically creates databases in the same location as the PATHWORKS 5.x PWNODE.DAT file. Note: Information in existing 4.x database files will be lost after running NM_5TO4. There is also the NMCVT.EXE utility included in \SDK\PW\BIN on the PATHWORKS for Windows 95 kit. This utility performs the reverse function of NM_5TO4; it converts 4.x database files to 5.x database files and is primarily used during migration from earlier PATHWORKS releases. Installation Copy the NM_5TO4.EXE utility to your PATHWORKS directory so it is available in your path. PATHWORKS Mail Autosort Extension (AUTOSORT\*.*) ================================================ Description This extension to Microsoft Exchange enables you to automatically sort incoming mail based on the From and Subject fields of a mail message. There are two interfaces to the Autosort extension: 1. Right click on any folder. This allows you to add or remove users (the From field). 2. Exchange->Tools->Options. This allows you to view all of the Autosort settings and what folders that are associated with. The sorting is done by comparing the From and Subject fields with the text provided by you. If the text matches any part of the string in the corresponding field, then that mail message is delivered to the folder. All mail messages are left in the unread state so the folder name will change from normal, to bold when a new mail message is delivered into it. Installation Using the Windows 95 Explorer, browse to the location of the unsupported disk files. Right click on the AUTOSORT.INF file, and select "Install". Removal Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs Select PATHWORKS Mail Autosort Extension [Unsupported] Click "Add/Remove..." PATHWORKS Mail Transport Provider for Microsoft Exchange (PWMAIL\*.*) ===================================================================== Description This transport provider provides access to the "New Mail" folder on PATHWORKS for VMS servers running DECnet. When the new mail is copied to the client, a copy remains on the server in the "Mail" folder. The provider does not provide access to other remote mail folders. When using Exchange, you should not use VMSMail or the PATHWORKS for DOS and Windows Mail to access the same account or the new mail count will be inaccurate. However, you will not lose mail under these circumstances. Installation If you are currently running Exchange, exit before installing the PATHWORKS Mail Transport Provider. Using the Windows 95 Explorer, browse to the location of the unsupported disk files. Right click on the PWMAIL.INF file, and select "Install". Start Exchange. Select Tools->Services->Add->PATHWORKS Mail Transport. Enter the required information. Removal Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs Select PATHWORKS Mail Transport Provider [Unsupported] Click "Add/Remove..." Windows 95 LK450 Drivers (KBD*.DLL, KEYBOARD.INF, LK450.DRV) ============================================================ Description These are the WFW 3.11 LK450 Keyboard drivers adapted to install on a Windows 95 system. The drivers are not native 32 bit device drivers. This should not be a big issue, as the native Keyboard.drv on Windows 95 appears to be a 16 bit driver as well. Installation Start->Settings->Control Panel->Keyboard->General->Change-> Have Disk Enter the location of the Unsupported LK450 Drivers Kit and select desired keyboard driver/layout (ie. United States LK450). INSTALLATION NOTES: This patch kit contains a PC based file in a self-extracting format. 1. Copy PWW95UNS.EXE onto your PC into an empty directory. 2. Expand PWW95UNS.EXE. For example, C:\TMP>PWW95UNS.EXE -d This will expand the file into its individual components with the directory structure intact and place them in the C:\TMP directory. NOTE: The -d switch is used to preserve the directory structure (-d MUST BE LOWER CASE). 3. See AAREADME.TXT in the root (\) directory for the Unsupported Utilities installation instructions. NOTE: If you have previously installed any of the unsupported utilities, you should remove them and delete any associated files before installing the new versions. These versions of the tools support the Windows 95 Add/Remove Software feature (with the exception of the LK450 drivers) to make future updates easier.
