SNA_DTF SNADTFU_E03033 SNA Data Transfer Facility Utility V3.3 ECO Summary

TITLE: SNA_DTF SNADTFU_E03033 SNA Data Transfer Facility Utility V3.3 ECO Summary NOTE: An OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file is stored on the Internet in a self-expanding compressed file. The name of the compressed file will be kit_name-dcx_vaxexe for OpenVMS VAX or kit_name-dcx_axpexe for OpenVMS Alpha. Once the file is copied to your system, it can be expanded by typing RUN compressed_file. The resultant file will be the OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file which can be used to install the ECO. Copyright (c) Compaq Computer Corporation 1999. All rights reserved. Modification Date: 09-DEC-1999 Modification Type: Updated Kit Supersedes SNADTFU_E02033 PRODUCT: DECnet SNA Data Transfer Facility Utility for OpenVMS V3.3 OP/SYS: OpenVMS VAX OpenVMS Alpha SOURCE: Compaq Computer Corporation ECO INFORMATION: ECO Kit Name: SNADTFU_E03033 ECO Kits Superseded by This ECO Kit: SNADTFU_E02033 SNADTFU_E01033 Not Officially Released ECO Kit Approximate Size: 2520 Blocks Saveset A - 2520 Blocks Kit Applies To: DECnet SNA Data Transfer Facility Utility for OpenVMS V3.3 OpenVMS VAX V6.2, V7.0, V7.1, V7.2 OpenVMS Alpha V6.2, V7.0, V7.1, V7.2 System/Cluster Reboot Necessary: No Installation Rating: INSTALL_UNKNOWN Kit Dependencies: The following remedial kit(s) must be installed BEFORE installation of this kit: None In order to receive all the corrections listed in this kit, the following remedial kits should also be installed: None ECO KIT SUMMARY: An ECO kit exists for DECNET/SNA Data Transfer Utility Server for OpenVMS V3.3 on OpenVMS V6.2 through V7.2 (VAX and Alpha). This kit addresses the following problems. Problems addressed in SNADTFU_E03033: o IBM initiated copy failed if the DTF server and client were on different nodes. If the user name DID exist on the VMS side, it would fail with -RMS-E-PRV, insufficient privilege or file protection violation If the user name DID NOT exist on the VMS side, it would fail with %SNADTF-F-BUGCHK, internal error detected in INIT at PC 001396C8 -SNADTF-F-SSFAIL, call to system service $PERSONA_CREATE failed -RMS-E-RNF, record not found o Error indicating that SNARCOPY had to be installed with DETACH/IMPERSONATE privilege. transfer/dtf copy ..... %SNADTF-E-RCPRIV, SNARCOPY must be installed with DETACH, NETMBX, SYSLCK, SYSPRV, TMPMBX privileges o Various errors indicating that $PERSONA_CREATE failed. -RMS-E-PRV, insufficient privilege or file protection violation %SNADTF-F-BUGCHK, internal error detected in INIT at PC 001396C8 -SNADTF-F-SSFAIL, call to system service $PERSONA_CREATE failed -RMS-E-RNF, record not found Problems addressed in SNADTFU_E02033: o Access violation after an attempt to reconnect An ACCVIO would occur when the application tries to perform a reconnect, for example, when the remote IBM becomes unavailable. This would occur while using VMS/SNA as a gateway. It was caused by the session block no longer being available or the receive buffer having been deallocated. o Connecting with the TCP Transport would fail As a connection is being established, the sequence of transports (default order is Local, DECnet and TCP) is tried. If one transport fails, the subsequent transports would also fail. This problem has been corrected. o Error message text is not displayed The V3.3 ECO1 kit will display the status code for some messages rather than the actual message text. This has been corrected. o IBM initiated transfers cause internal error Copy operations initiated from the IBM side were forcing a fatal error: -SNADTF-F-SSFAIL, call to system service $PERSONA_CREATE failed This problem has been corrected. o Isolated Pacing Response Not Being Processed Causing Hang When an IPR was received, and there are no receives outstanding, the pacing state was not being set properly. This led to a hang in the application after the pacing window was exhausted. o Added support for the Local transport on the OpenVMS Alpha platform Added support for the Local transport on the OpenVMS Alpha platform. This will enable local users to connect to Compaq SNA Server without using a network connection. This is similar to OpenVMS VAX local users connections to VMS/SNA. Example: $SET HOST/SNA 0. o Transmit byte count exceeds buffer length Fixed a problem where the connection failed to a gateway because the terminal ID was longer than 32 bytes. The following error was returned: %SNA-E-INVTRMPAR, invalid authterm parameter -SNA-E-LENTOOLON, transmit byte count exceeds buffer length o SNADTFCFG and TRANSFER/DTF SHOW ERROR command The SNADTFCFG and TRANSFER/DTF utility SHOW ERROR command would display messages showing random data in FAO data fields. This has been corrected. o SNADTF$FAL process HIBERnates forever SNADTF$FAL processes stayed in HIBERnate state when the DTF transfered data over the Open VMS/SNA. This problem has been corrected. o Passing string "." as a gateway name if connecting over Open VMS/SNA If the gateway is not defined from the snadtfcfg utility, a "." was used as the gateway name and appeared in the sna logmask trace, and the following error was returned to the user: %SNALU62-E-RESFRET, resource failure retry -SNA-E-NOMORETRA, gateway unknown or unreachable This is fixed so that "0" will be used when the user is requesting a connection over Open VMS/SNA. o Access violation on attempt to reconnect a session An application could access violate when closing down one connection and attempting a reconnect before the first session was completely torn down. o Logical name SNA$DEF_GATEWAY The logical name SNA$DEF_GATEWAY was not being translated. This has been corrected. INSTALLATION NOTES: The ECO kit is installed with the VMSINSTAL command procedure. Follow the instructions in the product installation manual to re-start the product after installing this kit. A reboot of the hardware is not necessary. The ECO kit checks to ensure that a valid license is installed before proceeding. If one is not found, the installation aborts. The minimum supported OpenVMS versions supported by this ECO: OpenVMS VAX V6.2 OpenVMS Alpha V6.2
