PLY_SSM SAVESETE02013 POLYCENTER Save Set Mgr for OpenVMS V1.3 ECO Summary

 
NOTE:  An OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file is stored
       on the Internet in a self-expanding compressed file.
       The name of the compressed file will be kit_name-dcx_vaxexe
       for OpenVMS VAX or kit_name-dcx_axpexe for OpenVMS Alpha.
 
       Once the file is copied to your system, it can be expanded
       by typing RUN compressed_file.  The resultant file will
       be the OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file which
       can be used to install the ECO.

ECO KIT SUMMARY:

An ECO kit exists for POLYCENTER Save Set Manager V1.3 on OpenVMS VAX
V5.5-2 through V7.0 and OpenVMS Alpha V6.1 through V7.0.  This kit
addresses the following problems: 

Problems addressed in the SAVESETE02013 kit:

  o  The /NOREWIND qualifier is changed so that on input, the tape
     will be searched starting at the current tape position; on
     output, the new file will be opened at end-of-data.

  o  $SAVESET COPY operations can be processed without internal       
     user file name validation. 
    
   NOTE:  HSM V2.0 and V2.0A users who have already installed the Save
          Set Manager V1.3-1 ECO do not need to install the V1.3-2 ECO. 
          However, the Save Set Manager V1.3-2 ECO was qualified for use
          with HSM V2.0 and V2.0A if users need the above Save Set
          Manager bug fixes. 


Problems addressed in the SAVESETE01013 kit:

  o  Since the release of V1.3 of the Save Set Manager, a problem was   
     discovered in the way that Save Set Manager responds to certain 
     unrecoverable read errors, such as SYSTEM-F-TAPEPOSLOST (magnetic 
     tape position lost), on some systems.  This problem has only been
     seen while reading from magnetic tapes (not disks).

     In most cases, Save Set Manager exits with an appropriate error
     message.  However, in some cases, as with Position Lost, Save Set
     Manager "hangs" in LEF state after several unsuccessful retries.

     NOTE:  The type of read error that can precipitate this behavior is
            inherently unrecoverable.  Even with this ECO, Save Set 
            Manager will not be able to successfully read the tape, but
            it will exit gracefully instead of hanging.


INSTALLATION NOTES:

The system does not need to be rebooted after this kit is installed.
