OpenVMS__ROBOT ROBOTE01014 Media Robot Utility for OpenVMS Alpha ECO Summary
TITLE: OpenVMS__ROBOT ROBOTE01014 Media Robot Utility for OpenVMS Alpha ECO Summary
Modification Date: 24-MAY-2000
Modification Type: New Kit
NOTE: An OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file is stored
on the Internet in a self-expanding compressed file.
For OpenVMS savesets, the name of the compressed saveset
file will be kit_name.a-dcx_vaxexe for OpenVMS VAX or
kit_name.a-dcx_axpexe for OpenVMS Alpha. Once the OpenVMS
saveset is copied to your system, expand the compressed
saveset by typing RUN kitname.dcx_vaxexe or kitname.dcx_alpexe.
For PCSI files, once the PCSI file is copied to your system,
rename the PCSI file to kitname-dcx_axpexe.pcsi, then it can
be expanded by typing RUN kitname-dcx_axpexe.pcsi. The resultant
file will be the PCSI installation file which can be used to install
the ECO.

ECO KIT SUMMARY:
An ECO kit exists for the Media Robot Utility on OpenVMS Alpha V6.2
through V7.2-1. This kit addresses the following problems:
o In case of an ESL 9000(multitower) with 3 units of
ESL9326D, 'read element status'(RES) for SLOTS could not be
issued. This problem was noticed with respect to the
"robot find cartridge" command.
The problem was analysed to occur due to a VMS imposed restriction
that RES could return data of length 64K or less only.
In case of the ESL9326D the returned data length would be
978 X 88 = 86064.
The fix for this problem involved capturing return values
larger than the allowed length, in parts and thus
fitting the RES of the SLOTS within the permitted length.
o In case of a multitude of PORTS in use, time taken for
GUI and CLI commands to execute used to be high because
of too many RES in use. This problem has been fixed in
this ECO by the use of a single RES instead of many.
o The MRU-UNIX command "robot show drive", showed drives of
only one unit, as "Available". This problem has been
fixed in this ECO, all drives will now be "available".
o New Features:
-------------
New functionality comprises, additional support for the following:
a) TSL10000
b) SSL2000
c) Tru64 UNIX V4.0G
d) Tru64 Unix V5.0 and 5.0A (with restrictions. For details
refer refer to Chapter 3 of COMPAQ Media Robot Utility - Guide
to Installation, Connectivity, and Operation.)
INSTALLATION NOTES:
The images in this kit will not take effect until the system is
rebooted. If there are other nodes in the VMScluster, they must
