INFSRV__OpenVMS IS1000_E01A35 InfoServer Software HELP Utility V3.5 ECO Summary

NOTE: An OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file is stored on the Internet in a self-expanding compressed file. The name of the compressed file will be kit_name-dcx_vaxexe for OpenVMS VAX or kit_name-dcx_axpexe for OpenVMS Alpha. Once the file is copied to your system, it can be expanded by typing RUN compressed_file. The resultant file will be the OpenVMS saveset. However, this file is NOT a VMSINSTAL saveset. The saveset will contain an image to be installed only on a InfoServer 1000. Please see Installation Notes. Copyright (c) Digital Equipment Corporation 1997. All rights reserved. PRODUCT: InfoServer Software V3.5 COMPONENT: HELP SOURCE: Digital Equipment Corporation ECO INFORMATION: ECO Kit Name: IS1000_E01A35 ECO Kits Superseded by This ECO Kit: None ECO Kit Approximate Size: 1274 Blocks Saveset A - 1260 Blocks NOTE: The saveset IS1000_E01A35.A is NOT a VMSINSTAL saveset. Kit Applies To: InforServer Softare V3.5 System/Cluster Reboot Necessary: Yes (See Installation Notes) ECO KIT SUMMARY: An ECO kit is availble for InfoServer Software V3.5. This kit addresses the following problems: o The help file built into the flash image for the InfoServer 1000 was truncated in the V3.5 release. When obtaining help on SHOW, UNBIND, UNLOAD, UPDATE, VERIFY, ZERO, and some SET qualifiers, the following message is displayed; InfoServer> HELP SHOW %ESS-E-NOHELPFOUND, Sorry, no documentation on SHOW This problem has been corrected for version 3.5a. Note: The problem is only apparent when booting from flash ROM in an InfoServer 1000. This problem is not apparent when booting from disk on either an InfoServer 1000 or InfoServer 150 system. INSTALLATION NOTES: Installation Overview --------------------- NOTE: The file IS1000_E01A35.A is NOT a VMSINSTAL saveset. 1.) Unpack the IS1000_V35.SYS MOP loadable image and the release notes from the backup saveset to a directory on an OpenVMS (VAX or Alpha) system. $BACKUP/LOG IS1000_E01A35.A/SAVE *.* 2.) Select the method to be used to load the MOP image to the InfoServer (target) that needs the flash ROM update. The InfoServer can either be loaded from an OpenVMS system or from another InfoServer. The target InfoServer cannot be used to load itself. Select either option a or b depending on which system will act as the load agent. a. Using an OpenVMS system as a load agent. o Make sure the system has service enabled (DECnet IV) or the state is on (DECnet-Plus) for the appropriate circuit. (DECnet IV: NCP> SHOW KNOWN CIRCUITS CHAR, DECnet-Plus: ncl> SHOW MOP ALL) o Copy the image to MOM$LOAD: giving it a unique filename that you will be assured of loading the version you just copied over. $COPY/LOG IS1000_V35.SYS MOM$LOAD:V35A.SYS b. Using another InfoServer as the load agent. o Create a 1064 block partition on the InfoServer hard drive. Make the partition MOP ENABLED. This example uses hard disk DK1:. Your InfoServer mop load agent might use a different disk name. InfoServer> CREATE PARTITION DK1:V35A BLOCKS 1064 MOP ENABLED o Make sure the InfoServer itself is MOP enabled using the SHOW SERVER command. The "Enabled characteristics:" category should say "MOP downline loading (V3)". o Create an ODS-2 service for the partition, write-enabled. InfoServer> CREATE SERVICE V35A DK1:V35A o From VMS, bind the service and MOUNT/FOREIGN $MCR ESS$LADCP LADCP> BIND/WRITE V35A LADCP> EXIT $MOUNT/FOREIGN DAD$V35A o COPY IS1000_V35.SYS to the DAD$V35A: logical device. $COPY/LOG IS1000_V35.SYS DAD$V35A: o Dismount and unload the DAD$V35: logical device. $DISMOUNT/UNLOAD DAD$V35: 3.) Press the break key on the InfoServer 1000 console to get to the console (>>>) prompt. If the break key does not halt the system, disconnect the network from the AUI or BNC connector on the back of the InfoServer and power cycle the system. Once the (>>>) prompt appears, reconnect the network connection. 4.) Boot the InfoServer target system using the following command. >>> BOOT/100 ESA0: 5.) Enter the name of the MOP partition if using another InfoServer as the load agent or the first part of the filename (not including the ".sys" file type) when using an OpenVMS system as the load agent at the "Bootfile:" prompt. Bootfile: V35A 6.) After a short period of time, the InfoServer should display the messages below. Respond to the "Do you really want to continue [Y/N] ? :" prompt with a "Y" and indicating you wish to change the current ROM image. Once you respond with a "Y", do not interrupt the burn. An interruption at this point could make the flash unusable. -ESA0 ---InfoServer 1000 FLASH ROM Update Program V1.6--- Current Contents of FLASH: Segment Size Version Maj.Rev. Min.Rev. Pat.Rev.
