OpenVMS_STORAGE DFGE01025 Disk File Optimizer V2.5 for OpenVMS ECO Summary

TITLE: OpenVMS_STORAGE DFGE01025 Disk File Optimizer V2.5 for OpenVMS ECO Summary NOTE: An OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file is stored on the Internet in a self-expanding compressed file. The name of the compressed file will be kit_name-dcx_vaxexe for OpenVMS VAX or kit_name-dcx_axpexe for OpenVMS Alpha. Once the file is copied to your system, it can be expanded by typing RUN compressed_file. The resultant file will be the OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file which can be used to install the ECO. Copyright (c) Compaq Computer Corporation 2000. All rights reserved. Modification Date: 1-MAR-2000 Modification Type: New Kit PRODUCT: Disk File Optimizer for OpenVMS OP/SYS: OpenVMS SOURCE: Compaq Computer Corporation ECO INFORMATION: ECO Kit Name: DFGE01025 ECO Kits Superseded by This ECO Kit: None ECO Kit Approximate Size: 37380 Blocks Saveset A - 632 Blocks Saveset B - 8256 Blocks Saveset C - 1008 Blocks Saveset D - 3216 Blocks Saveset E - 2208 Blocks Saveset F - 2208 Blocks Saveset G - 5544 Blocks Saveset H - 3908 Blocks Saveset I - 5924 Blocks Saveset J - 4476 Blocks Kit Applies To: Disk File Optimizer for OpenVMS V2.5 OpenVMS VAX V5.5-2, V5.5-2HF, V5.5-2HW, V5.5-2H4, V6.1, V6.2, V6.2-0HF, V7.0, V7.1, and V7.2 OpenVMS Alpha V6.2, V6.2-1H1, V6.2-1H2, V6.2-1H3, V7.0, V7.1, V7.1-1H1, V7.1-1H2, V7.2, and V7.2-1 System/Cluster Reboot Necessary: No Installation Rating: INSTALL_UNKNOWN Kit Dependencies: The following remedial kit(s) must be installed BEFORE installation of this kit: None In order to receive all the corrections listed in this kit, the following remedial kits should also be installed: None ECO KIT SUMMARY: An ECO kit exists for Disk File Optimizer for OpenVMS V2.5 on OpenVMS VAX V5.5-2 through V7.2 and on OpenVMS Alpha V6.2 through V7.2-1. This kit addresses the following problems: o DFO goes into a loop while defragging a volume set consisting of two 4 digit volumes. Investigation ------------- Irrespective of whether the first volume was a 4 digit or a 3 digit volume, DFO would defrag the first volume in the volume set and then go into loop before defragging the second volume - if it was a 4-digit volume. The problem occurred only in case of the 2nd or 3rd... or nth, volume being 4 digit volumes. o Filenames were not being displayed correctly by DFO's Monitor utility. Names of files that were currently being defragged appeared as overlapping each other. o The DFO Installation Verification Procedure (IVP) on OpenVMS 7.2 was failing. o The scheduling database on an Alpha machine running OpenVMS V7.2 cannot be shared in case of a mixed platform cluster. Investigation ------------ This should be viewed as a DFO restriction. As DFO supports HFS (Heterogeneous File System) features that are functional only in VMS 7.2 Alpha, records that are populated via a 7.2 system cannot be viewed from cluster members that do not support HFS and vice-versa. INSTALLATION NOTES: Invoke the VMSINSTAL procedure using the following command: @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL saveset-name device-name OPTIONS N Where: "saveset-name" is the installation name for the component. For this Disk File Optimizer kit, use the following: DFGE01025 "device-name" is the name of the device on which you plan to mount the media, for example, MUA0:. It is not necessary to use the console drive for this installation. However, if you use the console drive, replace any media you remove when the installation is complete. "OPTIONS N" indicates you want to see the release notes. If you do not include this parameter, VMSINSTAL does not ask you about the release notes. Review the release notes before proceeding with the installation as they could contain additional installation information. For more details consult the "COMPAQ Disk File Optimizer for OpenVMS Installation Guide." The system/cluster does not need to be rebooted after this kit is installed. However, the Disk File Optimizer for OpenVMS should be shutdown and restarted in order for all kit changes to take effect. All trademarks are the property of their respective owners.
