OpenVMS SPIECO101 Spiralog File System for OpenVMS Alpha V1.0 ECO Summary

NOTE: An OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file is stored on the Internet in a self-expanding compressed file. The name of the compressed file will be kit_name-dcx_vaxexe for OpenVMS VAX or kit_name-dcx_axpexe for OpenVMS Alpha. Once the file is copied to your system, it can be expanded by typing RUN compressed_file. The resultant file will be the OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file which can be used to install the ECO. Copyright (c) Digital Equipment Corporation 1996. All rights reserved. PRODUCT: Spiralog File System for OpenVMS Alpha OP/SYS: OpenVMS Alpha SOURCE: Digital Equipment Corporation ECO INFORMATION: ECO Kit Name: SPIECO101 ECO Kits Superseded by This ECO Kit: None ECO Kit Approximate Size: PCSI installation file - 9488 Blocks (DEC-AXPVMS-SPIRALOG-V0100-1-1.PCSI) Kit Applies To: Spiralog File System for OpenVMS Alpha V1.0 OpenVMS Alpha V7.0 System/Cluster Reboot Necessary: Yes ECO KIT SUMMARY: An ECO kit exists for Spiralog File System on OpenVMS Alpha V1.0 on OpenVMS Alpha V7.0. This kit addresses the following issues: o The free disk space shown by SHOW DEVICES is now predictable, and is up-to-date on all the computers in an OpenVMS Cluster. o The cleaner can now operate in two modes, Lazy (the default) and Nonstop. o When the disk is nearly full, attempts to mark deleted files as obsolete are more likely to succeed. o The format of save trails has changed to prevent you from being able to accidentally create an invalid incremental savesnap by saving a volume against the wrong save trail. NOTE: Because the save trail format has changed, you cannot use the SPIRALOG SHOW TRAIL command to examine a V1.0 save trail; the command fails with an error message similar to: %SPIRAL-E-STRAILNOACC, unable to access the volume's save trail FSA100:[000000]save.trail -BCK-E-STRAILBAD, file is either corrupted or is not a save trail To examine save trails created by Spiralog Version 1.0, use the TYPE command. For example: $ TYPE FSA4:[V10_SAVE_TRAILS.USERS]SAVE.TRAIL;77 o The online help includes a new Tasks topic that gives examples of how to set up and manage Spiralog volumes. o The SPIRALOG SAVE command no longer makes the system crash with an INVEXCEPTN bugcheck code if the disk is full. Please refer to the Release Notes included in the ECO kit for more details. INSTALLATION NOTES: Install this ECO kit using the POLYCENTER Software Installation utility. After the installation of this ECO, the system must be rebooted to activate the new version of Spiralog. Before installing this ECO, please refer to the ECO Cover Letter as well as Chapter 2 of the ECO Release Notes for additional installation instructions. NOTE: The following commands may be used to extract the ECO Release Notes from the PCSI installation file before installing the ECO. DEFINE PCSI$SOURCE [location of the PCSI file] DEFINE PCSI$DESTINATION [desired location for Release Notes] PRODUCT EXTRACT RELEASE_NOTES SPIRALOG - /FILE=SPIRALOG01-1.RELEASE_NOTES
