BASIC BASICAE1012 DEC BASIC for OpenVMS Alpha V1.2 ECO Summary

 
NOTE:  An OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file is stored
       on the Internet in a self-expanding compressed file.
       The name of the compressed file will be kit_name-dcx_vaxexe
       for OpenVMS VAX or kit_name-dcx_axpexe for OpenVMS Alpha.
 
       Once the file is copied to your system, it can be expanded
       by typing RUN compressed_file.  The resultant file will
       be the OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file which
       can be used to install the ECO.

ECO KIT SUMMARY:

An ECO kit exists for DEC BASIC V1.2 on OpenVMS Alpha V7.0 - V7.1.
This kit addresses the following problems: 

  o  On OpenVMS Alpha V7.1, requesting the generation of  
     BASIC$STARLET.TLB caused the installation to fail.  This 
     has been fixed and BASIC$STARLET.TLB may now be generated.

  o  On OpenVMS Alpha V7.0 and later, compiling references to 
     any of the following routines from BASIC$STARLET.TLB caused 
     the following error:  "%BASIC-E-NOTPASSBY, argument may not 
     be passed BY VALUE . . . ".  This was caused by an attempt 
     to reference quadword or octaword arguments BY VALUE.  Since 
     DEC BASIC does not support 64-bit  integers, an error occured.  
     The declarations for these routines in BASIC$STARLET.TLB are 
     now commented out so that they no longer cause compilation  
     errors.    Attempts to execute any of these routines will 
     result in an error, but direct use of these routines by DEC 
     BASIC programs is unsupported.   


INSTALLATION NOTES:

The system/cluster does not need to be rebooted after this kit is 
installed.
