OpenVMS ALPSYS21_061 OpenVMS Alpha V6.1 Security ECO Summary

NOTE: An OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file is stored on the Internet in a self-expanding compressed file. The name of the compressed file will be kit_name-dcx_vaxexe for OpenVMS VAX or kit_name-dcx_axpexe for OpenVMS Alpha. Once the file is copied to your system, it can be expanded by typing RUN compressed_file. The resultant file will be the OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file which can be used to install the ECO. Copyright (c) Digital Equipment Corporation 1997. All rights reserved. PRODUCT: OpenVMS Alpha V6.1 COMPONENT: SECURITY.EXE SOURCE: Digital Equipment Corporation ECO INFORMATION: ECO Kit Name: ALPSYS21_061 ECO Kits Superseded by This ECO Kit: ALPSYS18_061 ECO Kit Approximate Size: 513 Blocks Saveset A - 504 Blocks Kit Applies To: OpenVMS Alpha V6.1 System/Cluster Reboot Necessary: Yes NOTE: ECO ALPSYS21_061 is a cumulative kit which supersedes the ALPSYS18_061 ECO kit. Installation Rating: 3 - To be installed on all systems running the listed versions of OpenVMS which are experiencing the problems described. NOTE: In order to receive the full fixes listed in this kit, the following remedial kits also need to be installed: ALPSHAD09_061 ECO KIT SUMMARY: An ECO kit exists for SECURITY.EXE on OpenVMS Alpha V6.1. This kit addresses the following problems: PROBLEMS ADDRESSED IN ALPSYS21_061: o Prevention of interruptions of ORB/UNC manipulations: A DOUBLDEALO BUGCHECK occurs during process rundown, caused by double deallocation of a memory block. There is a small window of opportunity between the time the ORB is deallocate and the time its address is cleared in the UNC that the image could be interrupted and a rundown thread could pick up the ORB address and try to deallocate it again. PROBLEMS ADDRESSED IN ALPSYS18_061 KIT: o PGFIPLHI crash when referencing $GRANTID/$REVOKID (ID and PRVATR) parameters. INSTALLATION NOTES: NOTE: In order for the images in this remedial kit to execute properly, the ALPSHAD09_061 remedial kit for OpenVMS Alpha V6.1 must be installed first. For assistance in obtaining the ALPSHAD09_061 remedial kit please contact your normal Digital support channel. Install this kit with the VMSINSTAL utility by logging into the SYSTEM account, and typing the following at the DCL prompt: @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL ALPSYS21_061 [location of the saveset] The saveset location may be a tape drive, or a disk directory that contains the kit saveset. The system should be rebooted after successful installation of the kit. If you have other nodes in your VMScluster, they should also be rebooted in order to make use of the new image
