NOTE:  This kit includes ECO 8 for DIGITAL TCP/IP Services (UCX)
       for OpenVMS Version 4.1.


ECO KIT SUMMARY:

An ECO kit exists for DIGITAL Firewall Services V1.0 on OpenVMS Alpha 
V7.1.  

  o  Web Relay Technology Updated

       The CERN Web Relay is replaced by an OpenVMS port of the 
       AltaVista[TM] Web Relay. This change continues to provide proxy
       functionality and also fixes performance problems experienced with
       the CERN Web Relay. Users should experience faster response time
       when accessing web pages from outside the firewall. The CERN Web
       Relay is not removed and can be reimplemented if desired.

  o  Additional Functionality: Packet Forwarding and Filtering

       Low-level IP packet filtering and forwarding through the firewall
       has been added with this kit. This functionality is similar to the
       typical SCREEND found on many UNIX[R] systems. Previously rejected
       packet types can now be filtered, and all packets can be filtered
       and forwarded according to customizable settings.

  o  Included in this release is also a utility named DFWS, which is
     used to customize the packet forwarding settings. This utility
     contains extensive help files that provide all necessary 
     information for creating the settings. See the release notes 
     included in this ECO kit for more information about DFWS.

  o  Incorporation of DIGITAL TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS ECO 8

       This kit incorporates the most recent release of DIGITAL TCP/IP
       Services for OpenVMS, thereby ensuring the latest network software
       support.

  o  SMTPXD Fix

       Previously, users of Macintosh[R] computers encountered problems
       sending mail through the firewall. Those problems have been
       resolved in this release.


INSTALLATION NOTES:

The images in this kit will not take effect until the system is
rebooted.  

Complete instructions for installing this ECO kit are provided in the 
release notes. Before you install the kit, please note the following 
preinstallation requirements:

  o  This installation must be performed from a system account.

  o  Confirm that you are using OpenVMS Version 7.1, DECwindows 
     Motif[R] Version 1.2-3 for OpenVMS or higher, and have sufficient
     disk space to install the kit. Even though the DIGITAL Firewall
     for OpenVMS is compatible with OpenVMS Version 6.2 or 7.1, this
     ECO kit is intended only for systems using OpenVMS Version 7.1.

  o  In order to install the ECO kit, the system must already have
     the DIGITAL Firewall for OpenVMS Version 1.0 installed and the
