OpenVMS ALPCPU906_062 Alpha V6.2 - V6.2-1H3 System Routines

NOTE: An OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file is stored on the Internet in a self-expanding compressed file. The name of the compressed file will be kit_name-dcx_vaxexe for OpenVMS VAX or kit_name-dcx_axpexe for OpenVMS Alpha. Once the file is copied to your system, it can be expanded by typing RUN compressed_file. The resultant file will be the OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file which can be used to install the ECO. Copyright (c) Digital Equipment Corporation 1995, 1997. All rights reserved. PRODUCT: OpenVMS Alpha COMPONENT: System Routines SOURCE: Digital Equipment Corporation ECO INFORMATION: ECO Kit Name: ALPCPU906_062 ECO Kits Superseded by This ECO Kit: ALPCPU905_062 ALPCPU904_062 ALPCPU903_062 ALPCPU902_062 ALPCPU901_062 ECO Kit Approximate Size: 1332 Blocks Kit Applies To: OpenVMS Alpha V6.2, V6.2-1H1, V6.2-1H2, V6.2-1H3 System/Cluster Reboot Necessary: Yes Installation Rating: 3 - To be installed on all systems running the listed versions of OpenVMS which are experiencing the problems described. NOTE: In order to receive the full fixes listed in this kit, the following remedial kits also need to be installed: AXPGUP01_062 **** NOTE **** If this kit is being installed on an OpenVMS Alpha V 6.2 system, you must also install the AXPGUP01_062 kit or you may experience system instability **************** ******************** WARNING!! ******************** * * * A MACHINECHK may occur on an Alpha 2100 EV4 * * when DECwindows is started. Problems Addressed in ALPCPU906_062: o If an AlphaServer 2100 5/300, AlphaServer 2000 5/300, or AlphaServer 2100A 5/300 system has a problem with CPU0, and the console fails over to a different CPU, the user may see a mchk in PAL mode while trying to boot. (Halt code=7). o Change errorlog type codes used to log machine check frames. The errorlog type code will now match expected values for proper DECevent analysis. Problems Addressed in ALPCPU905_062: o Remedial kits ALPDRIV10_061 and ALPCPU904_062 both contain the V6.1 remedial SYS$CPU_ROUTINES_0902.EXE image. This kit eliminates the duplication. Problems Addressed in ALPCPU904_062: o There is a dependency between this kit and the AXPGUP01_062 remedial kit. When the ALPCPU904_062 remedial kit is installed on an OpenVMS Alpha V6.2 system, the AXPGUP01_062 remedial kit must also be installed. If the AXPGUP01_062 kit is not installed, it is possible to experience bugchecks caused by machine checks while in kernel mode. Problems Addressed in ALPCPU903_062: o If a device's EISA configuration utility CFG file requests two or more IRQs, the device can crash an EISA-based system. This problem can occur on Digital AlphaServer 2100 5/250, AlphaServer 8400 5/275, AlphaStation 600 5/266, Digital AlphaServer 1000 4/200 and DEC 2000-300 platforms. Problems Addressed in ALPCPU902_062: o Intermittent system failures may occur due to the incorrect handling of a correctable memory error. The failure appears as an INVEXCEPTN crash. o A system crash may occur during an attempt to queue a lock request against an associated resource. The crash occurs due to a corrupt R0 register. Problems Addressed in ALPCPU901_062: o Due to machine checks that may occur during attempts to boot in PALmode, AlphaServer 2100 systems with an EV45/275 MHz CPU installed may not boot. INSTALLATION NOTES: The problem addressed by the ALPCPU901_062 kit causes the system to be unbootable. However, if that kit has not previously been installed, the system must be rebooted in order to install this kit. If the system does have the machine check in PAL problem, either of the following methods will allow the system to be booted: INSTALLATION PROCEDURE 1 If the system already has an EV45/275 MHz CPU board installed, perform the following steps: o Shutdown the system o Reboot, entering the following command at the boot prompt: >>> b -fl 0,10000 [boot device] For example: >>> b -fl 0,10000 dka0 o Install the ECO INSTALLATION PROCEDURE 2 If the system is currently running an EV4 CPU, then it is not susceptible to the machine check in PAL problem. However, if plans are being made to upgrade to an EV45/275 MHz or an EV5 CPU, then this kit must be installed before the new CPU board is installed so that the system will boot properly. If the new CPU is installed before this kit, Installation Procedure 1 above will have to be used to boot the system. The system must be rebooted after successful installation of this kit. If there are other nodes in the VMScluster that are AlphaServer 2100 systems, this ECO must also be installed on those systems and the systems
