dUNIX ASU50ECO1_357 Advanced Server for UNIX V5.0 ECO Summary

TITLE: dUNIX ASU50ECO1_357 Advanced Server for UNIX V5.0 ECO Summary Copyright (c) Compaq Computer Corporation 2000. All rights reserved. PRODUCT: Advanced Server for UNIX V5.0 OP/SYS: COMPAQ Tru64 UNIX SOURCE: Compaq Computer Corporation ECO INFORMATION: ECO Kit Name: ASU50ECO1_357 ECO Kits Superseded by This ECO Kit: None ECO Kit Approximate Size: 63,620 Blocks (43573440 Bytes) Kit Applies To: Compaq Tru64 UNIX V4.0D through V5.0A Advanced Server for UNIX V5.0 Installation Rating: INSTALL_UNKNOWN Kit Dependencies: The following remedial kit(s) must be installed BEFORE installation of this kit: None In order to receive all the corrections listed in this kit, the following remedial kits should also be installed: None ECO KIT SUMMARY: An ECO kit exists for Advanced Server on Tru64 UNIX V4.0D through V5.0A. This kit addresses the following problems: o The ASU server did not ignore Windows 2000 privileges that are not implemented by Windows NT servers. Therefore, the samcheck -s command might have displayed the message invalid LUIDs. To fix this problem, enter the joindomain command and specify that the ASU server is to rejoin the domain. When the ASU server rejoins the domain, it ignores invalid LUIDs (Locally Unique IDs) while doing a full SAM database replication from the Windows 2000 PDC. o The ASU server sometimes crashes if the net accounts /uniquepw command is entered to lower the value of the maximum password history parameter. o The SAM database and other server data files were at risk of corruption if the /usr/net/servers/lanman directory was stored on an AdvFS partition and the system was rebooted. o The ASU server logs an event in the security event log when a user, either known or unknown, attempts to log in to or off of the ASU server. o When a client running the Windows 95 operating system software searched a share on an ASU server, a false access denied message was sent to the Alerter service. o When replicating a large number of files (100 or more), the replicator service would crash on the importing system. o Customer applications failed to find files if the UseOplocks registry parameter was disabled. o The ASU server now allows for LanManger-only security for NFS shares. With LanManager-only security, ASU users are not restricted from accessing files and directories because of Tru64 UNIX permissions. Files and directories created by an ASU user appear as if they were created by a Tru64 UNIX user. See the ASU V5.0 ECO 1 Release Notes for more information on how to enable LanManager-only security for NFS shares. o Some end user applications expect an access denied error code of 0xC0000022 when a user creates a directory that exists. Previously, the access denied error code could not be set. See the ASU V5.0 ECO 1 Release Notes for more information on how to set the access denied error code. INSTALLATION NOTES: This ECO1 kit is a complete software kit that includes the features and functionality of previous ASU software releases and provides fixes for the problems described in this document. If ASU or ASDU subsets are installed on the system, then the asuinstallupdate command can be used to replace the installed subsets with the subsets in this ECO1 kit. Alternatively, the Tru64 UNIX setld command can be used. If PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX subsets are installed, the Tru64 UNIX setld command must be used to deinstall PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX subsets and install the subsets in this ECO1 kit. The asuinstalludpate and setld commands are described in the following sections. The asuinstalludpate Command ------------------------------------- The asuinstalludpate command can be used to automatically replace the installed ASU or ASDU subsets with a new version and, optionally, install additional ASU subsets. The previous ASU or ASDU configuration, registry, and user and share databases are unaffected while the subsets are replaced and the asusetup command is not necessary to configure the ASU software. The asuinstallupdate command is located in the directory where the ECO1 software was downloaded. To use the asuinstalludpate command, change to the directory where the ECO1 software was downloaded, and enter: # ./asuinstallupdate . [subset ...] The setld Command ----------------------- Follow these steps to use the setld command to deinstall PATHWORKS, ASU, or ASDU subsets and install the ECO1 software: 1. Deinstall the PATHWORKS, ASU, or ASDU subsets. To display the installed PATHWORKS, ASDU, or ASU subsets, enter one of the following commands depending on the software installed: # /usr/sbin/setld -i | grep PATHWORKS | grep installed # /usr/sbin/setld -i | grep ASU | grep installed Deinstall the displayed subsets by entering the /usr/sbin/setld -d command followed by the name of each subset that you want to deinstall. For example, to deinstall the ASU Version 4.1 base, transport, and reference page subsets, enter: # /usr/sbin/setld -d ASUBASE410 ASUTRAN410 ASUMANPAGE410 While subsets are being deinstalled, you are prompted to save configuration files and the user account and share databases. Save these files and databases if you want to reuse them with the ECO1 software. 2. Install the ECO1 software by changing to the directory where the ECO1 software was downloaded, entering the following command, and following the instructions on the screen: # setld -l .
