dUNIX ASDUV40ECO2 Advanced Server for DIGITAL UNIX V4.0 ECO Summary

Modification Date: 21-MAY-1998 Modification Type: Updated ECO kit - supersedes ASDUV40ECO1 Copyright (c) Digital Equipment Corporation 1998. All rights reserved. PRODUCT: Advanced Server for DIGITAL UNIX OP/SYS: DIGITAL UNIX SOURCE: Digital Equipment Corporation ECO INFORMATION: ECO Kit Name: ASDUV40ECO2 ECO Kits Superseded by This ECO Kit: ASDUV40ECO1 ECO Kit Approximate Size: 104165 Blocks (53329920 Bytes) ASDUV40ECO2.TAR - 104160 Blocks (53332480 Bytes) Kit Applies To: Advanced Server for DIGITAL UNIX V4.0 DIGITAL UNIX V4.0A through V4.0D System/Cluster Reboot Necessary: No (See Installation Notes) ECO KIT SUMMARY: An ECO kit exists for Advanced Server V4.0 on DIGITAL UNIX V4.0A through V4.0D. This kit addresses the following problems: Problems addressed in ASDUV40ECO2: o Upgrade support from PATHWORKS Version 5.0g for DIGITAL UNIX (Advanced Server) software to the ASDU software. See the ASDU Installation and Administration guide for more information. o The ASDU server can be configured to use the Korean locale to communicate with clients. o A new lanman.ini parameter called debugmask can be used to control the protections of log and crash files. o A version of the ASDU Administrator that runs on an Alpha System running Windows NT. o Windows clients can access remote NFS files using group access. o Files in the /usr/users directory are no longer deleted when deinstalling ASDU in a TruCluster environment. o ASDU no longer crashes a system: - That is experiencing heavy network traffic and using an lmhosts file or domain name services (DNS) for wide area network computer name resolution. - When deleting or modifying a printer queue. Problems addressed in ASDUV40ECO1: o ASDU V4.0 did not support PATHWORKS client based licensing. Licensed PATHWORKS clients would consume a server license when connecting to the ASDU server. A license registrar was added to allow clients holding valid PATHWORKS client licenses to access the ASDU server without consuming a server license. o An administrative lock is now explictly set by ASDU when creating UNIX users. This has been done to ensure that UNIX accounts created by ASDU are not interactive until the administrator supplies a password to the account. o TCP/IP name resolution using the lmhosts file has been improved. o The browser process no longer deadlocks in domains where the PDC and BDCs are on different subnets. o Lmx.srv process could use large amounts of cpu time when doing a call to get printing information because it checked in multiple areas. ASDU was changed to check a single database before checking the print queues. INSTALLATION NOTES: The ASDU Version 4.0 ECO2 kit is a complete kit that you install by using the setld utility. You must deinstall PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX or ASDU subsets that were previously installed. See the Advanced Server for DIGITAL
