                      DSNlink Version 2.3E for Tru64 UNIX

       Dear Customer,

       This letter contains a brief description of DSNlink Version 2.3E
       for Tru64 UNIX and explains how to get the kit.

       The following are the topics in this letter. If you have
       already logged in to the FTP or Web directory, you can skip
       to section 3.0, File Names and Descriptions.

     1.0  About DSNlink Version 2.3E for Tru64 UNIX
     ------------------------------------------------

       DSNlink Version 2.3E for Tru64 UNIX is available on the
       Internet.  You can install DSNlink Version 2.3E on 
       Alpha systems running Tru64 UNIX Version 4.0b, 4.0d, or 
       5.0.

       DSNlink Version 2.3E is an engineering change order (ECO) kit.
       It has the following:

	o Support for using the X.25 transport with router nodes
        o Bug fixes and enhancements that make its features identical 
          to DSNlink Version 2.2D for OpenVMS

                              NOTE
        This release allows your DSNlink systems to use X.25 
        router nodes with these restrictions:

        o  Your Compaq Customer Support Center must install
           DSNlink Version 2.2E on the DSNlink host.
        o  If the Compaq host installs DSNlink Version 2.2E,
           it cannot make X.25 connections to your systems 
           unless they also run DSNlink Version 2.3E.

        Contact your Customer Support Center to coordinate your
        DSNlink Version 2.3E installation with the host's 
        DSNlink Version 2.2E installation.

       2.0  HOW TO COPY THE KIT
       ------------------------

       The DSNlink Version 2.3E kit and associated documentation can be
       retrieved via the DSNlink home page on the World Wide Web or
       via anonymous FTP from ftp.support.compaq.com in the
       public directory.  A list of the files and instructions
       for copying them are contained in the sections that follow.

       2.1 TO COPY THE FILES FROM THE WORLD WIDE WEB
       ---------------------------------------------

       1.   Go to the DSNlink Home Page at the following URL:

            http://www.support.compaq.com/dsnlink/

       2.   Click on DSNlink Version 2.3E for Tru64 UNIX.

            A page appears with a list of files you can download.

       2.2 TO COPY THE FILES VIA ANONYMOUS FTP
       ---------------------------------------

       1.   Use FTP (binary or image mode) to access the DSNlink kit at
            ftp.support.compaq.com.

       2.   At the Name prompt, type:   anonymous

       3.   At the Password prompt, enter your Internet system
            address (for example, rrunner@wileyc.acme.com).

       4.   At the ftp> prompt, type:   cd /public/DSNlink

       5.   Use the get command to copy the kits and documentation.

       3.0  FILE NAMES AND DESCRIPTIONS
       --------------------------------

       The DSNlink Version 2.3E files are listed below.  Make sure your
       system has enough free disk space before copying the files. You
       need approximately 7.3 MB to accommodate them.

     4.0  AFTER YOU COPY THE FILES, FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS
     --------------------------------------------------------

      1.  Become root and create a kit area on your disk by making a
           kit directory and extracting the kit archive.  For example:

           # mkdir kit
           # cd kit
           # tar xvf ../dsna235.tar
             .
             .
             .

     2.  Uncompress and print or display the DSNlink Version 2.3E
         Installation Guide.  This command uncompresses the PostScript
         version of the guide:

           # uncompress dsna235_iguide.ps.Z

           The text version of the guide is dsna235_iguide.txt.Z.


           ATTENTION USERS OF DECnet/OSI FOR Tru64 UNIX:
           -----------------------------------------------

           DECnet/OSI for Tru64 UNIX may hang the installation.
           We recommend shutting down DECnet during the installation
           using the /usr/sbin/decnetshutdown command.  You can
           restart DECnet using the /usr/sbin/decnetstartup command.

       3.  Install the Version 2.3E kit using setld.  Refer to the
           instructions in the DSNlink Version 2.3E Installation 
	   Guide.

           During the installation, you will create an MD5 authentication
           key.  This is the key assigned by the Electronic Access Support
           Team for your access number.  Protect this key as you would a
           password!

       4.  Complete the appropriate postinstallation tasks as
           described in the DSNlink Version 2.3E Installation Guide.
