DSNlink Version 2.2E for OpenVMS Readme First 7-October-1999 Dear Customer, This letter contains a brief description of DSNlink Version 2.2E for OpenVMS software. It also explains how to copy the kit to your system from either the DSNlink Web site or an FTP directory and what to do after you copy the kit. The following are the topics in this letter: 1. About DSNlink Version 2.2E for OpenVMS 2. File Names and Sizes 3. Download the Files Using Anonymous FTP 4. Download the Files From the Web Site 5. After You Copy the Files 1 About DSNlink Version 2.2E for OpenVMS DSNlink is a service tool that allows Compaq customers to receive product support electronically from their Customer Support Center. Customers can use DSNlink to submit service requests, copy files, and search technical support databases for articles and engineering change orders. Product specialists respond to service requests electronically and, if granted permission, can also log in to a customer's system to diagnose and correct problems remotely. DSNlink Version 2.2E is an engineering change order (ECO) kit. It contains bug fixes and supporting new features. The previous ECO kits, DSNlink Versions 2.2C and 2.2D, are included in the DSNlink Version 2.2E kit. You must have DSNlink Version 2.2, 2.2C, or 2.2D on your system to install DSNlink Version 2.2E. The supported versions of OpenVMS are 6.2, 7.1, and 7.2. 1.1 What's New in DSNlink Version 2.2E? The primary purpose of the DSNlink Version 2.2E kit is to add support for X.25 router nodes. Previously, if your DSNlink system used X.25 router nodes, the Compaq host could not make return connections to your system. ______________________ Important ______________________ This release allows your DSNlink systems to use X.25 router nodes with these restrictions: o Your Compaq Customer Support Center must also install DSNlink Version 2.2E on the DSNlink host. o If the Compaq host installs DSNlink Version 2.2E, it cannot make X.25 connections to your systems unless they also run DSNlink Version 2.2E. The changes to support X.25 router nodes require that all customers who use X.25 and the host run DSNlink Version 2.2E. ______________________________________________________ If you do not use the X.25 transport, you can install DSNlink Version 2.2E without coordinating the installation with the Compaq host. Several problems not related to the X.25 transport were also fixed. For detailed information, see the DSNlink Version 2.2E for OpenVMS Release Notes. 2 File Names and Sizes Make sure your system has enough free disk space before copying the files. The software kits and their approximate sizes in blocks are listed in Table 1.
