You can install DSNlink Version 2.1A on Digital Alpha AXP systems running Digital UNIX Version 3.2, Version 3.2C, or Version 4.0. 1.1 What's New in DSNlink Version 2.1A -------------------------------------- DSNlink Version 2.1A is enhanced to run on Digital UNIX Version 4.0 and updates route map entries for Customer Support Centers in Switzerland, Holland, and the United States. See the DSNlink Version 2.1A Release Notes for more information. 1.2 DSNlink Version 2.1 Highlights ---------------------------------- -- With a single access number, you can use DSNlink Versions 2.1, 2.0, and 1.2C. The previous restriction requiring separate access numbers for DSNlink Version 1.2C for OpenVMS VAX or ALPHA has been lifted. -- A new DSNlink communications transport has been added for Digital UNIX. Modems can now be used for interactive client/server communications. -- Other solved problems, new features, and enhancements to existing features are described in the DSNlink Version 2.1 Release Notes. ------------------------ 2.0 HOW TO COPY THE KIT ------------------------ *** NOTE *** By copying the DSNlink Version 2.1A kit, you are agreeing to use DSNlink according to the terms and conditions stated in the Digital Proprietary Service Tools Acknowledgment and the Digital Internet Use agreement. Copies of these agreements are included in this letter. Please ensure that all DSNlink contacts at your site are aware of these agreements. The DSNlink Version 2.1A kit and associated documentation can be retrieved via the DSNlink home page on the World Wide Web or via anonymous FTP from ftp.support.compaq.com in the /private directory. A list of the files and instructions for copying them are contained in the sections that follow. --------------------------------------------- 2.1 TO COPY THE FILES FROM THE WORLD WIDE WEB --------------------------------------------- 1. Go to the DSNlink Home Page at the following URL: http://www.support.compaq.com/dsnlink/ 2. Click on "Download the DSNlink V2.1A Kit (password protected)." 3. In the User name box, type: dsnkit 4. In the Password box, type: sweetclover A page appears with the title "Digital Electronic Service Kit: DSNlink Version 2.1A." See Section 3.0 for the file names and descriptions. 5. Click on each file to be downloaded and save it to a file with the same name on your local disk. --------------------------------------- 2.1 TO COPY THE FILES VIA ANONYMOUS FTP --------------------------------------- 1. Use FTP (binary or image mode) to access the DSNlink kit at ftp.support.compaq.com. 2. At the Name prompt, type: anonymous 3. At the Password prompt, enter your Internet system address (for example, rrunner@wileyc.acme.com). 4. At the ftp> prompt, type: cd /private/DSNlink 5. Use the get command to copy the kits and documentation. NOTE: Because this is a private directory, the files are not visible if you attempt to list them. Become root and create a kit area on your disk by making a kit directory and extracting the kit archive. Uncompress and print or display the DSNlink Version 2.1A Installation Guide. This command uncompresses the PostScript version of the guide: # uncompress dsna211_iguide.ps.Z The text version of the guide is dsna211_iguide.txt.Z. ATTENTION USERS OF DECnet/OSI FOR DIGITAL UNIX: ----------------------------------------------- DECnet/OSI for Digital UNIX may hang the installation. We recommend shutting down DECnet during the installation using the /usr/sbin/decnetshutdown command. You can restart DECnet using the /usr/sbin/decnetstartup command. 3. Install the Version 2.1A kit using setld. Refer to the instructions in the DSNlink Version 2.1A Installation Guide. During the installation, you will create an MD5 authentication key. This is the key assigned by the Electronic Access Support Team for your access number. Protect this key as you would a password! 4. Complete the appropriate postinstallation tasks as described in the DSNlink Version 2.1A Installation Guide. Thank you for using DSNlink! DSNlink Program Office Digital Customer Support Center ---------------------------------------------------- 5.0 DIGITAL PROPRIETARY SERVICE TOOLS ACKNOWLEDGMENT ---------------------------------------------------- These special terms and conditions are in addition to the terms and conditions of any Digital Service Agreement referenced herein. In the event of conflict, these special terms and conditions shall prevail. 1. Customer acknowledges and agrees that the Digital proprietary and confidential service tools specified in this acknowledgment, and any subsequent versions installed or provided by Digital (collectively the "Tools"), and associated documentation, are intended for Digital's use in support of its warranty or maintenance service on the specified System Configuration(s), and that Customer may use the Tools and associated documentation only in accordance with these special terms and conditions and only for purposes complementary to Digital's provision of such service. 2. During the term of the applicable Digital warranty and/or during the term of the Digital Service Agreement referenced herein, Customer may use, only to the extent expressly authorized by Digital and in accordance with these special terms and conditions, the Tools and associated documentation during the period such Tools are installed on the System Configuration(s) specified in this acknowledgment. 3. Digital transfers no title to or ownership of the Tools to Customer. Except as expressly set forth in these special terms and conditions, Customer shall not otherwise use, copy, modify, remove or transfer the Tools. Customer shall not provide or make the Tools, or any resultant diagnosis or system management data, available in any form or manner to any third party. Customer shall not decompile or reverse assemble any software Tools, or analyze or examine for reverse engineering any hardware or software Tools or any firmware implementation of the Tools. 4. Customer will allow Digital access to the specified System Configuration(s) to install, replace or remove the Tools as Digital deems necessary. Customer's right to use the Tools shall terminate upon Digital's removal of the Tools from the specified System Configuration(s). Upon notification of Digital's intent to remove the Tool(s), Customer will immediately cease using and return to Digital all hardware and firmware Tools, and, at Digital's option, will destroy or return to Digital all copies of all versions of the software Tools and Tools documentation in Customer's possession and, upon Digital's request, will certify in writing that Customer has ceased using the Tools and documentation and that all Tools, including archive copies of the software Tools and documentation, have been destroyed or returned to Digital. ------------------------ 6.0 DIGITAL INTERNET USE ------------------------ Customer acknowledges that, as a legitimate member of the Internet community, use of the Internet in conjunction with this Digital contract be consistent with the National Science Foundation's "NSFNET Acceptable Use Policies." Inter-company transactions over this network between Digital Equipment Corporation and contract customer shall be consistent with those policies and are limited to the exchange of information necessary for the support of systems under contract. Customer acknowledges that Digital neither controls, nor manages the Internet and thus will not be liable for the timeliness, reliability, integrity, or security of data transmitted over the Internet.
