RE: Use of VAX7XXX console firmware

There are three available versions of VAX7XXX console lfu firmware available. These are

VAX7000_S0E.sys for use on all VAX7XXX systems. (fixes repeated power error messages)

VAX7000_V0C.SYS and .EXE Official release for all VAX7XXX systems

VAX7000_V10.SYS and .EXE VAX78XX only. (fixes cpu init problems on power up)

The .SYS files are MOP loadable and the .EXE files can be booted from a write boot enabled disk.

The VAX7000_S0E LFu was built off the Same files as the V0C release but with changes to fix

stale data overrun errors from being reported.

The VAX7000_V0C (version V4.3) was the last version sent through official release channels and

is sufficient for most installations.

The VAX7000_V10 LFU was created using the V0C base files and is only for use on VAX78XX systems. Two fixes

were added to remedy two specific problems.

1. The reporting of stale data overrun errors

2. VAX78XX systems not always passing self test on power up

If neither of these problems is being seen, simply use the VAX7000_V0C LFU.

The .SYS LFU needs to be copied to a networked system capable of doing mop loads or an info server.

The .EXE LFU can be copied to a system disk or a secondary disk that has been write-booted.

To perform a LFU load via the MOP load do the following command at the console prompt:

ex. >>> boot -flags 0,0,0 exa0 -file VAX7000_V0C

If using a system disk copy the file to the disk.

ex. >>> b -fl 0,0,100 disk

At BOOTFILE: enter exact file location

EXAMPLE

dua0:[sys0.sysexe]vax7000_v0c.exe

Run the LFU to update the console firmware.

Refer to the release notes or operation manual for more information.
