Purpose of this Document



This Read Me contains important information for Compaq & Force ALPHAvme

customers  related to updating firmware.





Latest Firmware Update Revisions



The latest firmware update boot file, ALPHAvme5_v1_3.exe on the Alpha Firmware 

CD, contains the SRM Console V1.3.  This version of the SRM Console is for

the ALPHAvme 5/352 and 5/480.





Firmware Enhancements and New Features



o Enhanced support for new DE520-Bx 21143 PMC fast enternet card



Firmware Anomalies, Restrictions, and Workarounds



BEFORE updating the firmware, set environment variable MODE to FASTBOOT as 

follows: 



        >>> SET MODE FASTBOOT



After you set this variable, reinitialize the ALPHAvme5 SBC (Single Board 

Computer).





ALPHAvme5 Firmware Release Notes



The Firmware Release notes for the ALPHAvme 5/352 and 5/480 SBC's are 

located on the Alpha Systems Firmware Update CD  in the following 

directories:



*       On an OpenVMS system:

        [DOC]ALPHAvme5_V13_fw_relnote.ps     (PostScript file) 

        [DOC]ALPHAvme5_V13_fw_relnote.txt    (Text file)

*       On an DIGITAL UNIX system:

You are no longer required to read the Firmware Release Note to boot the 

firmware update program.
