State (Summary)

DESCRIPTION
The "State" tells if a Sun MTP system is up or down. This datapoint also appears
on a Sun MTP system's Overview Screen. When a system comes down while Sun MTPScan is
connected to it, Sun MTPScan freezes the datapoints to the values at the time of the
last update.

VALUES
There are only two values possible:
UP - the Sun MTP system is up (in execution)
DN - the Sun MTP system is down (not in execution)

INTERPRETATION
Note that this datapoint's value may lag behind the actual state of a Sun MTP
system. Sun MTPScan tells if a Sun MTP system is up or not by comparing the Sun MTP
time to the current time. If the Sun MTP time is greater than the current time
minus an interval value, then Sun MTPScan knows that the Sun MTP system is up.
Therefore, until this interval transpires when a system first comes up, Sun MTPScan
thinks the Sun MTP system is down even when this is not the case. This interval
may be specified on the command line to unikixmain with the -i option. The value
defaults to 60 seconds. This interval controls how frequently Sun MTP updates
its own (kixdump) statistics.

CONCLUSIONS
Reducing the value of the -i parameter to unikixmain will cause Sun MTPScan to more
accurately reflect the "State" of the Sun MTP system. However, a reduction in the
Sun MTP statistics update interval incurs more overhead internal to Sun MTP and
is likely to reduce performance.
