Average Time (Semaphores)

DESCRIPTION
"Average Time" indicates the average time a semaphore was locked.

VALUES
When you bring up Sun MTP with the -D5 flag, "Average Time" displays the number
of microseconds (usecs) Otherwise, "Average Time" is zero.

INTERPRETATION
If the "Average Time" goes up dramatically as the system usage goes up, the
semaphore could be a culprit causing the system to degrade. If a semaphore
controls application access requests (as opposed to internal Sun MTP resource
contention that the application has no control over), check if the application
can be changed to alleviate the problem. Refer to the description for a certain
semaphore in the Help on "Name" to identify the type of resource the semaphore
controls.

CONCLUSIONS
When "Average Time" becomes unwieldy for Sun MTP-specific semaphores, please
report the problem to Sun support personnel. Remember that the value
shows microseconds, and not seconds.
