BJ Writes (Overview)

DESCRIPTION
The number of "BJ Writes" represents the number of before-journal writes that
have occurred since Sun MTP system initiation.

VALUES
This value is not updated when recovery is off. If recovery is on, this value
will continually grow as database activity occurs.

INTERPRETATION
When turned on for a Sun MTP system, the recovery utility uses the Before Journal
to perform recovery. Whenever an application program modifies a record on the
database, the Sun MTP system writes the record to the Before Journal before the
changes are made to the actual record. If the transaction or application program
aborts, the image of the record in the Before Journal can be written back to the
database to maintain the database in a consistent state.

CONCLUSIONS
All transactions run by Sun MTP write to the Before Journal as long as recovery
is active and recovery is specified for the dataset in the FCT. Use "BJ Writes"
in conjunction with system performance information to determine the proper
placement and configuration of the Before Journal. Refer to the Help on
datapoints in the Recovery Screen for more details concerning configuration.
