BJ Reads (Overview)

DESCRIPTION
The number of "BJ Reads" displays the total number of before-journal reads that
have occurred since Sun MTP system initiation.

VALUES
This value is always zero when recovery is off. When recovery is on, this value
increases as the number of aborted transactions increases.

INTERPRETATION
Before-journal reads occur when the Sun MTP system is required to rollback the
database due to a transaction abort. Sun MTP queries the Before Journal to obtain
any database before images that pertain to the aborting transaction. Writing
these images to the database maintains the database in a consistent state.

CONCLUSIONS
"BJ Reads" is related to the transaction "Aborts" datapoint (also on the
Overview Screen). If the value of either datapoint grows too large, a Sun MTP
system is having difficulty getting any work done. Transactions that are causing
"Aborts" should be corrected as soon as possible.
