KIXHOST (Environment)

DESCRIPTION
The "KIXHOST" environment variable indicates to Sun MTP executables that remote
terminals are to be used. The interpretation depends on the type of executable.

VALUES
The value of "KIXHOST" is the name of the host machine where the Sun MTP system
executes. On a UNIX system, this value can be retrieved using the 'hostname'
command at the system prompt.

INTERPRETATION
When you execute a Sun MTP terminal handler (TH) with the "KIXHOST" environment
variable set (and exported), the TH attempts to make a connection to a Sun MTP
system (identified by "KIXSYS") running on the "KIXHOST".

When you initiate a Sun MTP system with "KIXHOST" set, Sun MTP forks a Transaction
Initiator Server (Trin) process to handle remote terminal connectivity.

CONCLUSIONS
Do not set "KIXHOST" if you do not intend to connect remote terminals to a
system because the system incurs additional overhead to handle a perceived need
for remote connectivity.

Sun MTPScan displays the value of "KIXHOST" as it is being used by a Sun MTP system.
Even with the system up and running, it does not mean that the value of the
environment variable is correct. If the system exhibits strange behavior,
examine the values of all environment variables on Sun MTPScan's Environment Screen
to ensure that the Sun MTP system has been told correctly where to look for the
components needed to execute a system.
