Filename (Dataset - Seg)

DESCRIPTION
"Filename" is the name of the system file that contains the dataset segment.
The Sun MTP File Manager maps the segment to the "Filename".

VALUES
The "Filename" value consists of one to fourteen characters. The "Filename" is
a standard system filename and follows the naming restrictions particular to
the system where it resides. Sun MTPScan obtains the "Filename" from the Sun MTP
File Manager.

INTERPRETATION
The full pathname of the physical file for a dataset segment contains three
components. Append the "Filename" and the proper extension for the dataset
segment's file to the value of the "Environment". The extensions for segments
of the file are .dta for the first segment, .dt2 for the second, .dt3 for the
third, . . . etc.

CONCLUSIONS
Since Sun MTP stores the name of the "Environment" variable, not the value,
it is very easy to change a dataset segment file's location without having to
reconfigure Sun MTP. To move a segment to a more efficient location, just change
the value of the "Environment" variable before initiating a Sun MTP system.
Neither the "Filename" nor "Environment" value has to change.

Sun MTP file segmentation automatically stripes a dataset for both increased file
size and access efficiency. Place segments on different devices (hard disks
and/or disk controllers) to maximize I/O bandwidth.
