Dataset (Dataset - Alt)

DESCRIPTION
The "Dataset" column shows the names of alternate indices to the "Primary
Dataset", displayed above the Segments KxScrolledList.

VALUES
A "Dataset" name is a one to eight character string. Sun MTPScan obtains the value
from Sun MTP's internal File Control Table (FCT). If there is a problem opening
the primary dataset, Sun MTPScan displays '////////' in the "Dataset" column.

INTERPRETATION
The 'Alternates' KxScrolledList displays entries when you open a Dataset Screen
for a primary dataset, and furthermore, only when that dataset actually has at
least one alternate index. A primary dataset does not necessarily have
alternates.

CONCLUSIONS
There is an easy way to tell if the dataset in a Dataset Screen is a primary
dataset or not. The "Primary Dataset" displays 'Self' for a primary, and shows
an actual primary dataset name for an alternate. When the Dataset Screen is
for an alternate, there are no entries in the Alternates KxScrolledList.
Another way to tell if a dataset is a primary is to look at the dataset's entry
in the VSAM Screen. The "Alt" displays an 'N' for a primary dataset. You should
be able to locate the "Dataset" for each alternate index on the VSAM Screen.
Such datasets have a 'Y' displayed in their respective "Alt" columns.

When "Dataset" displays '////////", look in $KIXSYS/unikixmain.log for the
error messages concerning the alternate and/or primary dataset file. Such a
condition usually results from misconfiguration of a dataset in one or both of
the Sun MTP FCT and File Manager.
