Problem Description:
When a large (2 Gbyte) process malloc's memory it hangs
for ever waiting to allocate memory. The problem is due to the
fact that the kernel cannot allocate 2 Gb + 1 page worth of contiguous
memory in order to grow the data segment of the process.
