This directory contains tape images taken from original and semi-original sun
distribution media. Because tape is a rewritable storage medium it is possible
that the original tapes may have been modified at some point in the past.

All of the images were taken from QIC (Quater Inch Cartridge) tapes using the
UNIX `cat' command:
      cat /dev/st0 > image_name
It is possible that some images may be incomplete. In particular, 700-2646-10
and 700-2647-10 did not image correctly. All of the others appear to work with
UNIX tar fine.

For a list of filenames next to brief descriptions, see 00-INDEX.txt. This file,
01-README.txt, contains the full text (except licensing information) of the
tape label. There may be errors in the original labels and the manually typed
version maintained here.

emacs-tape    This tape appears to have been "SunOS 4.1.1 Sun-3(TM) SUNBIN and
              OpenWindows(TM) Version 2" at some point in the past. It has had a
              new label applied over the top of the original sun one with the
              following contents:

              the numbers appear to refer to SunOS/Solaris patches. The tape is
              in TAR format. The original tape was a QIC-24 cartridge

100149-03     Patch 100149-03
              tar format                       12 October 1992
              This appears to be a patch for SunOS 4.1.1 from 07-April-1991. The
              tape is not an original sun branded QIC tape but included in the
              case were two bits of paper; a print out of the readme file and
              a note from Sun Microsystems New Zealand about the tape suggesting
              that it was created by them.

              Imaging of this tape was unsuccessfull - GNU Tar wouldnt read  the
              tape and attempting to cat /dev/st0 only got what appears to be a
              README file. This makes it seem likely that there is more on the 
              tape. If there is, I do not know how to access it yet.
