FTP Archive on Randomize-ii Last Revised: 01 September 2009 ================================================================================ This is the FTP archive on Randomize-ii serving over 100GB of data. It may be accessed via the following protocols over the local area network: FTP - ftp://ftp.zx.net.nz/ HTTP Direct - http://ftp.zx.net.nz/ Local network access note: The system uses virtual hosting to provide direct http access. This means that if DNS is down your only options are to use either the HTTP/FTP proxy or access the archive directly via FTP. In these situations the system will normally have the IP Address 192.168.0.192. Note that the HTTP/FTP proxy can be somewhat slower than either of the other two options due to the extra overhead of the webserver having to make connections to the FTP server. Other Protocols: At One point the archive was available via CIFS (aka SMB or "Windows Networking"). The archive has since outgrown the volume it was stored on and is now spread over three different fixed disks. As Windows does not allow these three partitions of the FTP archive to be nicely merged into a single directory hierachy CIFS access is no longer possible. The FTP server software currently manages merging everything together. At some point in the future the archive will move to a UNIX host. At this point CIFS access will be re-enabled along with NFS mounting the archive. Everything will then be happy. This archive contains useful (or not) files, software and other junk. Below is a brief index of what may be found in the pub directory: /archive - Retired now. Use /mirrors instead. /drivers - Drivers for various hardware /Game-Files - Games, patches, add-ons, etc /incoming - This directory allows anonymous uploads /mirrors - Mirrored data/websites (eg, ftp.digital.com) /Media - OS installation media, linux ISOs, etc. /micro - Stuff for various microcomputers such as SGI systems, the Apple II and Apple Macintosh, etc /misc - Misc stuff such as videos. /net - Networking stuff such as web browsers and RFCs. /Patches - Patches for operating systems and software /software - Software archive for various platforms /usenet - Usenet archives Other directories not listed above are perhaps likely to be moved in the future. A number have been already... Recently a number of things have been moved around: /OpenBSD - This has been moved to /mirrors where it belongs /Steam-GCF - This has been removed as it is no longer suitable here. The original is still available in /Game-Files /linux - This is now in /media/linux /Video - This has been moved to /misc/Video /archive - This has been retired. Data is still stored there but may not be forever. Use /mirrors instead - currently it just points to /archive but may not for long. For a more detailed and no doubt up to date index, see 00-INDEX.txt in this directory. ================================================================================ David Goodwin
